Looking for a certain book.

    Hi I need help looking for a certain book that I haven't read since my leaving cert days. It's a book about the troubles in the 80s. I cant exactly remember the story but from what I can remember it was about a guy that is being forced to plant a bomb under someones car. I think his family was being held hostage. Anyway instead of planting the bomb he calls the police and his placed in a witness protection program. Then after a while he flees to England but still ends up getting shot and killed. I'm not sure of the protagonists name but could be Michael. Does anyone know the name of this book? I'd love to reread it. It was part of my leaving cert curriculum in 2012/2013 I think.
