Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Phillips just shows what having a natural CB there does even if he isn't top class he knows the role.

He's that bit older than Williams too. If we're not buying a CB in this window I would prefer Phillips beside Matip or Fab than Henderson or Williams

I don't think mourinho can say the best team lost tonight:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,564 ✭✭✭RugbyLover123

He will probably make some mistakes, by I would like to see Phillips start at CB with Matip now if it meant seeing Fab, Hendo and Thiago start in midfield together.

*on the note that Matip and Fab are only minor

West Ham will be tough. Only 3 days away. And they’ll have had 2 days extra rest. Centre of defence? Who knows?

Great to experience the sweet sweet taste of 3 points again though.

I'm taking full credit for the win I took Bobby and Mane out of FF Team and replaced them with Kane and Son.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,945 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Phillips played in the win over West Ham earlier in the season so giving him the minutes tonight could be getting him ready for the full 90 for the weekend.

Just the Mighty Reds the league champions winning football matches.

I like that Phillips is from the John Smiths school of defending.

    No messing at all.

He is not top level but, I wouldn't **** a brick if he was there like Williams for instance.

We just need to improve against the bottom-half sides.

Great win, all positives except for Matip.

I think tonight changes everything, confidence is back.

Gotta say Hugo Lloris is the worst "one of best goalkeepers in the league" I've seen.

Question: why isn't Nat Phillips starting?

We need to go get a CB tonight

No point, he'd probably be injured by this time next week anyway.

Better option than Williams for sure.

Exactly 7 days ago, we had some lads in here offering advice on our woes having succumbed to Burnley. I think it'll be a quiet one tonight.

A week is a long time in football.

Such a vital win, but totally deserved.

That was more like it tonight.

Improved performance was there v Utd. Better again tonight.

Maybe the title wasn't won in Jan. Right back in the mix now.

It might force the owners into buying a CB.

Just remembered Matip got injured again. Hopefully Fabinho is OK by Sunday.

Haller stunk the joint out that day, pretty easy day at the office. Be interesting to see who klopp picks.

Matip needs replacing over the summer

Maybe but they don't work that way and stick to their guns.

Getting the right player is difficult too.

And we're back, that was outstanding. Trent, firmino, thiago ran the show. For the love of God buy a centre back, this can still be a successful season.

Sign a CB and we’ll retain the league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

I really do thin Williams is only starting over Phillips because he is young and might have a future at the club
Youd have to imagine Klopp thinks Philips is better but not in the long run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    But still...

    Buy a goddamn centre back.

Unfortunately now is not the time to be rolling the dice for the sake of the future. While Williams might have a higher ceiling it's all about who can do the basics right now.

I think William's is more comfortable with the ball at his feet, playing out from the back, which Klopp likes.

    Bobby was superb.

Klopp is emotional, love that guy. He is like the father I never had.

It helps that we went ahead against Spurs and them playing at home. They are under pressure to go forward and can't play 5-4-1 or 5-5-0 like other teams. We have difficulty breaking down those systems.

If we can play 10 mins of early Klopp era 'heavy-metal football' against West Ham and go ahead, we've a very good chance of beating them. They are in the mix for a EL place and Moyes will want a result against us as his record is so poor v Liverpool.

    Apart from that:
    • TAA played well in phases.
    • Nat better than Rhys. He needs to start if Matip is out. Fab and Hendo can mentor him.
    • TAA, Mane, Bobby and Salah all scoring will get confidence up. Yes, Salah disallowed, but it was a very good strike and he was in no way responsible for it being disallowed.
    • Mane still holding the ball at times when he should be driving forward.
    • Milner a monster.
    • Gini will be a huge gap to fill if he goes in summer, we need him so much in games like today.

We need a CB before the week is out. Urgently.
