There's a big difference with playing Thiago alongside Fabinho and Hendo or Keita's energy beside them than playing alongside 35 year old James Milner in his 4th game in 10 days and Shaqiri just floating around.

Thiago is clearly a decent footballer, but he just does not suit our style. Too often he picks up the ball and instead of playing it first time, he takes a few touches and the window to attack is lost.

    Spot on

Great player but when you think back to our best displays over the past 2 seasons, the ball is rarely moving so central and so slowly.

To save this season I reckon Klopp has to be incredibly brave by playing the two new lads at CB, moving Fab and Hendo back into midfield with Thiago playing in behind the 3 lads up front.

I disagree. He's exactly what we need - we don't have enough creative midfielders who can thread a through ball or draw opponents resulting in space for others. He just hasn't got into the groove yet.

In a few weeks Mane, Fab, Jota will all be playing hopefully. Add in the new boys at teh back one or both and the middle will start to look like itself again. It's not over bar the title challenge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,820 ✭✭✭BionicRasher

Bobby needs quick one touch balls in to him. Salah needs ball to his feet with space to attack
The full backs need to get the ball pinged to them and bomb up the line
They are getting none of that and I really don’t think Thiago is the one to provide it
Everything is sideways and way too obvious

Maybe we will see something when Hendo and Fab are in next to him but at the moment I can’t see it

Put Thiago in a functioning midfield and defence, where you've Henderson and Fabinho pressing and recycling the ball further up the field, and then judge him.

We have some of the fastest front men in English football. And he goes for a floating incredible stunning ball.

But it is too slow . Even the flight of ball too high and slow.

Thiago looks great on the ball but that's as far as it goes I'm affraid
Fulham, West brom, Newcastle, Burnley, Southampton and Brighton twice.. 4 goals and 4 points from those games, just let that ****ing sink in

100% we have our issues with injuries but ffs why didn't the players on the pitch learn after about 5 minutes to stop putting the ball out wide for Trent and Robo to put in hopeless crosses into a box full of Brighton players that are way taller than our lot.

That goes for corners too and the management should've instructed the players on something different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

People criticising Thiago don't get why he was bought.

He's hardly played in the team that he was supposed to slot int and played in makeshift midfields since he come back from injury.

Tonight we were missing Allison, Matip/Gomez, Virgil, Fabinho, Keita, Mane & Jota.

How can people expect performances and results not to suffer and players like Thiago to struggle?

Maybe I am wrong but I don’t think Thiago had any assists for last season?
    Something similar shaping up here

Thiago will be a great player for us.

This run of injuries is not sustainable. It never was.

He's never been a big goal scorer or assister. Neither was Xabi Alonso and he was pretty good.

Hopefully with Jota,Mane and kieta back and bring at least one if not two of Fab and hendo into midfield will be enough to get top 4 and reset for next season

Thiago would not be playing every 3 days if we had more midfield options

When we were losing we would just go and get an equaliser and then score in the last few mins of a game. We won everything. VAR loved us. Everything was there for the taking. And now it's all over. And that's the hardest part. Today, everything is different. There's no action. We have to watch the lads pass out wide to Trent and Robbo who swing it in and it goes nowhere. But at least we won the league :pac:

Hopefully he'll be better when they all return. I thought he'd be perfect for games like tonight's, i.e. creating chances when it's hard to break teams down, but he hasn't done that yet in most of these type of games.
Maybe the forwards aren't making the runs, getting into good spaces.
    I'm just a little disappointed.

    Very disappointing performance.
    League officially over tonight.
The zip in our play just isn’t there in the main.
Too many disruptions to the team and no real rhythm created. Top 4 has to be the focus and a proper crack at number 7.

Firmino is great when things are going good, he's no good in a crisis though. Seems to want ages on the ball when in front of goal.

Stunning looking footballer - great to watch.

But - if he doesn't create goals as people are saying
He is a poor tackler of the ball
Does not break up play - or win ball back
Loses ball in dangerous parts of the pitch

Has not interest in picking out the most amazing front men as quickly as he can think -

A serious question - what the hell is he for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Few more weeks for Jota according to Klopp. Mane might be available for City but hasn't been training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,144 ✭✭✭Augme

Thiago is the least of our problems. Seems a strange one to be highlighting him. There's about 10 other areas that need to be fixed before we get to him. We really miss having an inform striker. Jota was a huge loss.

Henderson - Sahq and Jones individually - have created more goals in his 10 games.

We should be playing deeper at home by choice. This thing of playing 89 minutes in the oppositions half, and then allowing them to score the one time they go forward is becomes a bad habit.

    Ikozma wrote: »

Because we haven't got the same personal available and it was clear as day that putting in crosses tonight wasn't going to work and it's hasn't been working at home for a couple months now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

The problem with Thiago is the other CM's and CB's literally stand 5 feet from him. The fullbacks do it too as well at times. If he has the ball ****in run and not be looking to play one twos five yards apart at the half way line under no pressure which the players are constantly doing.

It's also a reason I'm a little wary of a Thiago/Henderson/Fabinho midfield I feel they may end up on each others toes a lot.

Might help the squad if after 4 years the manger realizes you cant have Origi as your back uo striker

Its even more bizzare given how bad Firmino has veen for 2 years now

In fairness, we did get an improved backup striker, he's just also out injured.

Had Jota not been broken, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Origi would have left on loan too, with a view to selling him in the summer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Just a general observation on the players we have available; a more direct approach will suit the likes of Shaq, Origi, Chamberlain and even Salah, and playing more direct is the reason why the previous two results went our way.

The patient build up stuff just isn't utilising the players we have that are fit. It was painful seeing Divock stand around and even get in the way tonight while we were dicking around ponderously.

Before all the injuries, yeah. But the amount we’ve had are unsustainable, especially when the only backup after Jota is Origi, and milner plays as many games as he’s playing.

Think top 4 will be grand, Spurs and Chelsea 7 points behind us and play each other tomorrow. West Ham and Everton arent going to put up a challenge.

Thought Kelleher did everything asked of him tonight but how unlucky have we been with injuries, seems like we manage a new one every 10 days or so lately

Klopp needs to be brave and play 2 of our 3 centre backs in defence, there can be no more Henderson and fabinho in there we desperately need them in midfield with thiago.

Assuming Allison stays fit I see no reason to delay playing Davies/Phillips/Ozan. It will be a big help having him behind them.

That’s that as regards the title. A shame. In truth we just haven’t been good enough, signs were there all season that we wouldn’t turn around our form and resemble something from last season.

Just need to fight for top four.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

While not a complete overhaul. This has to be a summer for changes....Ox, Shaq, Origi and Minaminho must be replaced. With Gini going himself thats another midfielder required. Kieta and Matip can't be depened on but maybe kept and we desperately need cover for both our full backs!!! That is a lot of work for one summer I know but we have to start...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭Shanee.

Need something like this for Sunday

    Ali
    Trent Davies/Kabak Fabinho Robbo
    Hendo Thiago Jones
    Salah Bobby Mane

And going forward we should be trying to get the new CBs as much game time as possible to get Fabinho back into the midfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

I would probably sell Keita as well.
I rate him but he cannot stay fit. We wuld get a decent fee 25-30m for him.

Edwards needs to not hold out all summer for fees that other clubs wont match.
Wilson & Grujic should have been sold last summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,198 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

What I cant figure out is why we persist with an out swinging corner. A poor team in the air surely in swingers should be better a touch off anyone's head could lead to a goal opposition defenders included. At least mix it up a bit
