    And persisting in "differentiation" over streaming/banding ... In classes that are the biggest in Europe...

    Top in Europe for maths. Above in science. Minimal gender gap.

    Negative is it’s not challenging enough at the top. And yet... we are bringing in common papers. And changing the junior cert maths set up

    You are not allowed challenge rhem at the top

    Due to those large classes previous poster brought up

    Due to mixed ability/differentiation .....its a lovely idea but unworkable once you go up in numbers

    And I would argue due to ever declining disciplinary standards and a tendency in a lot of places to sweep it under the carpet as much as posdible as management/teachers arent given the back up to enforce proper standards

    Then there is also the time and energy that has to be put into box ticking etc

    Part of me thinks just give the mandarins/gurus enough rope and they will hang themselves but you just know teachers would be blamed for any failure and it would be met with another group of flunkies collecting the 100k for some initiative......rather than the blame being hung squarely where it should be.
