the language in it is just ridiculous. The healthiest individual ever to be elected president. Healthier than Obama? Healthier than Teddy Roosevelt, who 3 years before being sworn in was leading the charge of the rough riders up san juan hill? thats the problem with trump. He can never lie small. every lie has to be a big lie.

The thing about all this was he’s an old man, there would be no shame in not having great health in his 70s but he can’t even admit something that is both obvious to all and expected anyway.

Trump believes we all have a finite reserve of energy and that exercising uses it up. So he also probably believes he actually is in great health regardless of his burger only diet and complete lack of exercise.

    This was the "doctor"

Thanks for that, I hadn't read that letter before it is both hilarious and deeply depressing at the same time.

Clearly written by Trump himself, even the language "astonishingly excellent" is pure Trump. Excellent just isn't good enough..

Here's a piece in Wikipedia about Bornstein. Well worth a read:

In December 2015 in response to questions about his health, Trump asked Bornstein to issue a "full medical report", predicting that it would show "perfection". Two days later Bornstein signed a letter full of superlatives, saying that Trump's "laboratory results are astonishingly excellent" and that Trump "will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."In 2016, Bornstein stated that he had written the letter in five minutes while Trump's limousine waited for it. But he reiterated that Trump's "health is excellent, especially his mental health."

In May 2018 Bornstein said that, in fact, Trump had dictated the letter over the telephone, then sent a car to pick it up. Bornstein said in an interview with CNN that "Mr. Trump dictated the letter and I would tell him what he couldn't put in there..."

Speaking to The New York Times in February 2017, Bornstein revealed that he was invited to and attended President Trump's inauguration with his wife Melissa. Bornstein told The Times that he enjoyed the attention from being known as the President's personal physician.Acco rding to Stat, Bornstein had hoped to be the physician to the President, but the White House decided that Ronny Jackson would continue in that role.

On May 1, 2018, Bornstein told NBC News that three Trump representatives had "raided" his office on February 3, 2017, taking all of Trump's medical records. He identified two of the men as Trump's longtime bodyguard Keith Schiller and the Trump Organization's chief legal officer Alan Garten. Two days earlier, Bornstein had told a reporter that Trump took a prescription hair growth medicine, Propecia, after which Trump cut ties with him.

So going off Trumps well known propensity to admit to the things hes done by denying them before anyone's ever asked him any questions, hes likely had hip, knee and shoulder replacements as well as possibly a minor form of cancer. Also 100% his cardiovascular system is shot to **** but we knew that since he eats only burgers and refuses to exercise.

Also, the idea that a gastroenterologist should assess a person's mental health is ridiculous. Trump is a textbook case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

But he does do some exercise: he spent an inordinate amount of time on golf greens the past 4 years.

Its taking the position of President seriously, thats the thing he refused to do as President!

He was known to pose as his press spokesperson "John Barron" in the late 80's/early 90's when his first marriage collapsed and his collapsing empire became fodder for the tabloids. It became a badge of honor for the journalists he'd ring up to endure "John" talking about his Boss' sexual escapades and conquests. It's cringeworthy to listen to the tapes and frightening that someone that deranged became President. Playing the role of his own flying monkey ffs. Someone once memorably summed up his business career as Trump "squandering his father's fortune trying (and failing) to bed Madonna".

It's no stretch to believe someone as gratingly narcissistic as him would dictate a letter espousing his incredible health.

He uses a Golf cart the whole time , does not walk at all on the course.

So he swings his arms 70 odd times per round (or a lot more depending on if you believe his handicap scores or not) , that's about it for exercise.

So, do we think Barr is "leaving" because he wouldn't declare widespread fraud and Trump wanted him out, or do we think that he sees what is coming down the line, the madness between now and 20th Jan and decided to get the **** out of Dodge before the utter insanity reigns supreme? Be it Pardonpalooza, or more seditious behaviour, or more outright criminality? The story of the call to the Ukraine PM being referred for criminal investigation could be part of it.

People have mentioned he is looking for a pardon. What for?

My guess is barr cut a deal. And looking at Trumps behaviour since the election, my guess is Donald did not.

Trump has left himself in a woeful position here, while president he can't even find a competent lawyer willing to represent him - once out of office and without any potential clout that people like Barr may have left, Trump may be up the creek without a paddle.

In 2015, he, through Michael Cohen, paid for fraudulent IP addresses to be used to place votes for him on an NBC poll to identify America's top Business Leaders.

He was already making calls to people telling them how high he had placed (they deliberately made sure he didn't win as it would be too suspicious) when NBC obviously copped it and disqualified him leading to him threatening to sue them.

The same narcissist who is decrying that the election was rigged.

I think it's far simpler than that - Barr had had enough , but remained loyal enough to give Trump something to use on his way out.

Biden got confirmed via the Electoral College and less than 5 minutes later Trump releases the "Resignation letter" from Bill Barr (Clearly written by Stephen Miller or another of the sycophants) to deflect the news Media from splashing the Biden result everywhere.

It's all about the ratings for him - He wanted to steal Bidens "ratings" so Barr gifts him the Story to do it.

Barr isn't actually leaving for another week or two and given the prevailing timelines he's basically taking "time off in lieu" before he'd be finishing up regardless. It's an utterly meaningless resignation.

    It's Trump Theatre and it's best/worst.

Barr "having enough" doesn't check out though. On top of his role in the Iran Contra scandal, he literally wrote a 19 page letter about how on board he was with all of this illegality, essentially begging Trump to let him get involved as he would abuse the office to act as Trumps legal bodyguard.

Barr cutting a deal to save himself like a rat in a sinking ship is the most likely explanation here in my opinion.

When I say "enough" I don't mean that he was frustrated or disillusioned or anything like that , just that he couldn't be arsed to hang around for the last few weeks.

So he cashes in his outstanding vacation days and leaves a few weeks early and gives Trump a ratings hit to mute the Biden EC Victory on his way out the door.

Who's he cutting a deal with , Trump?

He wouldn't have to leave to get that , Trump will just hand out pardons like confetti on the morning of the 20th and all is well with their world.

I can't see a deal on the table from the incoming administration , can you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,042 ✭✭✭Carfacemandog

I would figure more likely any deals he may be cutting are in relation to charges he and trunp may face leaving office. A lot of former high ranking layers and officials are calling for proves and investigations into his (Barr's) actions over the last few years, while Trump has repeatedly outright broken the law and will no longer have 50 senators willing to acquit him of crimes they then happily admit he committed.

A deal for Barr I could possibly see there in a "knows where the bodies are buried" sense.

The denialism online is still strong with people under the impession that if anybody sends a 2nd set of ballots to Congress that the election automatically goes to a contingent election - skipping many many key details and caveats.

The best retort of all the silly retorts has been: "What about the 1960 election?"

Good question in fairness. Richard Nixon was the Vice President and was the presiding officer of the joint session of congress to count the electoral votes. Hawaii sent in 2 slates of electors, and Nixon chose the latter, which gave Hawaii's 3 electoral votes to John F Kennedy.

So, MAGA, concludes, this 'clearly means' Vice Pence can just decide to count whichever version of a states result he likes right?

Well, no. Hawaii certified its electors before the safe harbor but was still conducting a recount at the time. The recount later confirmed that JFK, not Nixon, had carried the state, and so the Hawaii Governor re-certified it. Ergo, both slates that went to Nixon's pulpit bore the seal of the state executive. That is not the case here in 2020. Only one slate of electors from each state bears the seal. VP Pence doesn't have the option to just pick one, he must faithfully execute the law under 3 US Code section 15. A GOP Senator and Representative can still contest any states result as far as I know, even if it has the seal, but, both chambers have to vote to sustain the appeal (and Mitch McConnel and many GOP have already accepted Biden as the President Elect). If both chambers fail to sustain the objection, the governors count is accepted. If the Senate sustains and the House does not (the most likely result):

{I}n such case of more than one return or paper purporting to be a return from a State, if there shall have been no such determination of the question in the State aforesaid, then those votes, and those only, shall be counted which the two Houses shall concurrently decide were cast by lawful electors appointed in accordance with the laws of the State, unless the two Houses, acting separately, shall concurrently decide such votes not to be the lawful votes of the legally appointed electors of such State. But if the two Houses shall disagree in respect of the counting of such votes, then, and in that case, the votes of the electors whose appointment shall have been certified by the executive of the State, under the seal thereof, shall be counted.

It is only in the cosmically improbably circumstance that both the House and Senate vote to throw out a governor's result that we could possibly see a situation where we go to a contingent election. In fact, because Republicans sent their own slates putting Trump, with a big asterix, at 273 votes, they would have to hope both chambers sustain all their objections and pick that result before a contingent election occurs under the 12th amendment. If, somehow, Democrats agreed with evidence of "massive fraud" by January 6, and only threw out say 3 of those results, and not 4: then, Biden is still over 270 votes, and is still the president elect.

edit: and my new favorite channel has a new video up, about the TX lawsuit.

I don't normally like talking heads, but this guy just pours through the law, cites it, argues it. Objections in the comments.
