Another rat leaves the sinking ship.

    Betsy DeVos resigns.

A much loved education secretary and down right decent human.

I think the teachers summed her up best.
The American Federation of Teachers issued a pithy two word statement on her departure: “Good riddance.”

Someone online wrote about her resignation - "yachts and prayers"

You are aware of Operation Warp Speed which led to multiple vaccines?

You are aware of Operation Warp Speed which led to multiple vaccines?

Donny became bored with the whole pandemic thing when everyone started laughing at him and questioning his mental health (again) when he suggested injecting toilet duck would kill the virus.

He stated himself that his "briefings" during the early days of the pandemic were great for ratings.

He had about as much input into vaccines as Barron had, all though I imagine even the kid knows injecting poison into yourself is not a cure for Covid and just a dangerous stupid idea all round.

Any major vaccine has received funding from multiple governments. They helped but not exactly sole responsibility. On top of that, Trump discouraged mask wearing, lockdowns (even threatened states over them) and ran rallies. He didn't remotely take the virus seriously and is responsible for a fair share of the deaths in the US. A huge proportion were preventable.

Was that the one where trump tried to claim credit for the Pfizer vaccine as American when it was in fact funded and developed in Germany by a Turkish immigrant?

You can't use logic and facts with trump fanboys they are immune to them.

  • The more we find out about this the more it seems to have been astonishingly lucky it wasn't far worse.

My thoughts exactly as I catch up this morning. To see military and state legislators in the mix now makes it seem like something more organised than just a bunch of hicks.

With this in mind I doubt the sincerity of his latest video.

Just heard Pat Kenny say that the Police Officer who was killed was attacked and hit over the head with a fire extinguisher.

    Nothing peaceful about that.

Most people are aware of operation claim credit for vaccines, yes.

It was an attempted coup. The fact it failed is not relevant.

Yes. But it wasn't much of an attempt, or much of a coup.

Did they have a plan of what they were going to do? March in, kill a few democrats and wait for Trump to make a declaration, or what?

The first vaccine to market got no funding from Warp Speed. The remaining vaccines in the programme were well under development when any funding was made available. Warp speed was quite similar to the EMA's advance purchase agreements with the addition of grants. The FDA approval was also expedited through use of the pre-existing EUA programme. What work was actually completed by Warp Speed is questionable

An attempt to put a halt to a democratic process. Two pipe bombs. Cable ties. 5 people dead.

What would you describe it as?

But it had a cool name. Give Trump some credit for a cool sounding name. As usual with Trump it's all fur coat and no knickers.

Hmmm. I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

Well given that members of the senate tried ringing the secretary of defence to authorise Maryland's riot squad (who were ready to go) to enter in to the state to assist with the capitol law enforcement yet the secretary (a recent trump appointee) refused to take the call, I'd say it gives it some merit to be looked in to

Would the people who are being arrested for the more minor offences have a plausible defence that they were acting (or reasonably believed so) under the instruction of the lawful President? Would be interesting to see a lawyer run with it, but no idea if it would be a valid defence under USA laws.

By 'minor' I mean the people who are wanted for 'violence at Capitol Hill' as per Overheal's post #4157. Obviously the people with pipe-bombs or who have killed a police officer are different.

A lot of coup and uprising attempts take place around the world quite a lot. Most are a disaster and fail.

Irelands own Easter Rising in 1916 was a failure, but did rally people to it's cause.

edit: Personally I don't think this was a full blown coup attempt. This was a bunch of angry morons with poor education who've been fed lies for years having their ego's stroked and told that they could make change. At best it was an attempt to bully congress into discounting votes, but it was never going to happen. Across the board Trump lost, and Trump has always known this.

His absolute public denial and outrage was catered to boost his ego and see people jump on his behalf. Trump caused this.

The plan was riot,?????, profit. It had a higher likelihood of success than Trump trying to pressure Pence into doing something he can't do.

They seemed to think as soon as they did this the country would rise up with them and the 100 million entirely fanatical Trump voters (in their minds) would rise up with them. Republicans would see the strength and all follow in while they killed all the CCP agents that make up the democratic party.

Was a good coup, no. They have no grounding in reality, actually making a strategic plan is impossible for them because of this.

When the going got tough Trump backed away. After encouraging his supporters to march he threw them under the bus. Trump is running for his life now so alike the nazi hardmen after WW2.

That will be a major turning point here. A police man was murdered by a mob which Trump and his supporters invited.
Any words now are pointless. As this was unfolding Trump could have come out and called for calm.
He could have said please sit on the lawn have a peaceful protest, instead he gleefully watched the violence unfold.
Any words of regret now should be dismissed.

He still hasn't pulled back on his serious allegations of voter fraud. That in itself should be grounds for impeachment. A president that refuses to accept the legal will of the people, as determined by election and numerous court cases since.

Everything needs to be investigated. However, not taking a phone call is a far cry from what the article is implying. Their 'sources' are an unnamed Parisian security official and two unspecified agents from NATO countries. It's laced with supposition and innuendo based.

Won't happen. Trump's supporters are showing a lot of cognitive dissonance. Right now they're out there claiming it was all an Antifa/BLM false flag thing. Weirdly they'll go on about how sad it is an innocent US Vet was killed in the building, but it was still an Antifa thing.

    Nearly 375 thousand dead Americans.
    1/1000 American dead.

You are aware it didn’t go from 15 cases to zero?

But, according to that logic, wouldn't that Vet be a member of Antifa? And so, shouldn't they be happy with that?

Well, I wouldn't go that far Overheal.

In fairness, if they had acted in a more heavy handed fashion, it could have been a bloodbath. I don't think anyone would want to see that.

Besides once they were in the building, they really hadn't a clue what to do with themselves. I don't think anybody had thought things through.

There is never any logic. Logic is flat out banned. She was a patriot but the people charging the capitol including her were Antifa but she was a Trump supporting patriot.

I'd love to see a bit of research on the mental health status and the IQ of Trumpists.
