Why is Trump pushing this? What's the benefit to him?

Think it's the removal of the Section 230 clause which big tech uses to remove responsibility from them as to what is on their platforms.

Sinister motivations behind it no doubt.

Idiotic motivations as he doesn't realise that removing that protection for the tech companies will just mean that the likes of Trump will get banned. That protection for the tech companies is what gives Trump his voice, but he's too dumb to realise it.

“Donald Trump claims Brad Raffensperger's brother is working for China in bizarre Twitter rant - even though Georgia's secretary of state does not have a brother”

    Lol.
    He’s completely lost the plot.

Someone will (probably) correct me, but trump gets to move to his favoured method of doing things, which is to bring in lots of lawyers and sue for everything, he's like the weenie bad guy from a 90's comedy.

    Here’s the thing. At least.

If he steals people’s money and tries to pardon his coconspirators or himself from it, he still has to surrender the stolen property. For the same reason Paul Manafort isn’t getting back his fancy jackets or townhouses.

So, if he thinks he can grift a bunch of elections funds through a Kushner shell company and just keep it for his lawsuit warchest he’s more than likely mistaken. They also waive 5th amendment protection, which is very useful to prosecuting the state level crimes.

All that said I could see this having a go in SCOTUS, but I’m not sure who has the standing.

Trump is just a common garden gangster now pardoning his fellow crooks.

Was always going to end this way.

At least some who supported him will now see how they have been used by an absolute criminal.

Don't think they will be able to call themselves the law and order party for a generation.

Actually how did they ever get away with that branding after Nixon and Iran Contra?

I kinda doubt that. On the same lines the UN isn't happy at the pardoning of war criminals, nor is the father of a 9 year old boy they killed...

When you read the details it's hard to believe he did it, but he did.

All the regular posters will be back feinting about food stamps.

If you, as they do, use "law and order" as a racist dog whistle, they'll be just fine with it.

Stops people talking about the others he pardoned and pardoning "our guys" kind of appeals to the base. It's a smoke screen.

It is crazy, how people still aren't aware of the process.

Sure they can object to the certification, but then both houses will have to vote not to certify.

Even in worst case if the Senate votes not to certify since Republicans holds a majority, the house won't as the Democrats hold the majority there.

The folks are just hyping themselves for a huge disappointment.

Well it will certainly be an efficient way to determine who to target for deselection come 2022, 2024 and 2026.

So, if the DNC or GOP controlled both house/senate in 2024, do they bother having an election?

It's purely for the optics. Trying to keep the Trump idiot base content, that's all the Republicans are thinking about at the moment. The disregard for the damage that this is doing to American democracy is quite awful to watch, especially for a party that's always allegedly stood up for "defending the constitution".

The party of the Constitution and the party of Law & Order are setting fire to both.

The stunts on the 6th January won't change the outcome one iota but it will be a shameful day for the US. Banana Republic type stuff. Embarrassing.

We all saw the way people like Lindsey Graham rolled back on his words in relation to impeachment of Trump versus Clinton and then a President appointing someone for the Supreme court during their final year.

Trump screaming Law and Order as his administration had 215 indictments attached to it and he pardoned several people convicted for actions on his behalf.

    They. Don't. Give. A. Fcuk.

Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Susan Collins, Matt Gaetz, Nikki Halley et al will all be on Fox News in a months time talking about the disaster of a response to the Pandemic from Biden, saying Americans are hurting without support and oh yeah, the deficit is a big concern.

The only surprise is thinking that it might shame them to be exposed so brutally but again, I refer you to my previous point; They. Don't. Give. A. Fcuk.

Totally right. It is the most hypocritical political environment I have ever seen. I've no time for politicians in general but how the Republicans manage to walk around without being in possession of spines is quite impressive, in its own way. You'd have to give them credit for being medical marvels in that regard.

Noam Chomsky has been right about that party for years. They are a completely destructive element.

This thread has been fairly quiet.

America is waiting for 45 to leave office, kind of like passing a gallstone.

Meanwhile, the loser in chief is trying his best to cause sh1t before he is turfed out.

Its actually quite telling just how quiet this thread, and news in general of Trump, has become and how quickly.

It points to the reality that is facing Trump, that of irrelevance. He is doing his best to avoid it, but he is quickly finding out that so many of his 'supporters' are only supporting him while he has power.

He has effectively been campaigning since 2015, he expects that people are going to stick with him for 4 years in the wilderness?
