    Dont think this will ever happen for 2 reasons.
    1 There is No shelter for any breeze between NW & Southerly.Wide open to any Easterly.
    2 There is No water there. You only have 6 - 8 fathoms of water going approx 2 miles off shore. Has anyone ever looked at how the beach is so flat ??
    It goes off for ever at low water.

    Very same one. The City North Hotel was going to make a fortune from the trade from the port. Landowners sold property for crazy prices. Best of luck to them ��

    I live near there, from my limited knowledge of ships etc they need a deepish channel to get to a berth. That's not going to happen, it's a shallow beach with a crumbling mud cliff. Terrible location for a harbour, let alone a deep port.

    Someone has been telling porkies to up the land prices.

    A scaled down London Gateway Port is what we need to emulate in this country, it cost £1.5billion, pocket change in the scheme of things.

    Any and all Port investment should now be put into Rosslare first, then Cork and Dublin as necessary.

    I daresay Belfast will be almost surplus to requirements, let alone a Port at Bremore.

    Report on possible re-location of Dublin Port mentions alternative of:

    One option suggested is that a supplementary port could be developed in a location such as Bremore in Balbriggan in north Dublin or in Arklow in Co Wicklow. Doing this would cost as much as €4.1 billion in the case of Arklow and €4.5 billion if it were to happen in Bremore.

    Theres already a supplementary port at Rosslare, it just needs investment for lo-lo and some supporting infrastructure, none of which would come to 4 billion euro.

    Do you think the boys in Dublin Port, the largest and richest state port by a country mile, would simply role over and let Rosslare/Irish rail take all their growth for free?

    Dublin Port wouldn't even share cruise ships with Dun Laoghaire.

    The Government has still not chosen an eastern port outside Dublin for the offshore wind farms we need to build, service and assemble. As usual delay even with a Green Minister resonsible has meant its more likely Wales will benefit and not Ireland. Rosslare is too far south and you get the usual "plans". The government will have to make a choice and not worry what votes it loses over X other port not getting the nod. We have 5 years to get planning permission, order the turbines, line up the kit and skilled labour needed and schedule the maritime kit that must be booked years ahead and then Eirgrid need the onshore power ready to connect it all without delay ohh and some sort of port to handle anything Wales finds too low profit to bother taking on until Irish ports clamour for the business they missed and voters ask at the door
