I think travel between EU countries will be very open and even relatively safe (compared to now)

Certain EU countries will be so slow and late with vaccine that I think it's safe to write them off from the list of holiday destinations. At least for this year, can't say for the next one.

I'm curious if they'll get buy in on not vaccinating people who had Covid. I suspect they'll just ask those people if they wouldn't mind waiting and that will be it.

Our (Italy) government and specialists said that people who had Covid would have been put at the end of the list, because they could have a natural immunity, so they could wait a little longer.
Well, my wife was vaccinated yesterday, and they didn't even ask her if she had the disease or not.

Which ones do you think will fall into that category of too late?

A short briefing on early discussions between German and Russian politicians on the possibility of manufacturing Sputnik V in the EU should they apply for EMA authorisation. Would be great to see this if it is anything as good as they claim, ~90% efficacy.

People were very dismissive of this vaccine but Russian scientists are not lightweight.

The first that comes to my mind is my country, Italy.
I posted about this doubt of mine before, which, incidentally, isn't only mine, but many other people do think the same.
The feeling that many of us have is that at the end of this year we will be only about halfway through the campaign, so definitely not a safe country during summertime, hence not a safe destination for a holiday from abroad.

I agree. I mean, have you seen Ivan Drago?

Seriously though this could be very helpful. We need all the vaccines we can get!

Not a lot of data is the issue, not how smart they are.

Someone posted a very good image of the estimated rollout of the vaccine
It was in months and how it might plan out
I thought i saved it but can’t find it , I would be very grateful if anyone remembers it and can post it . Its for someone who is struggling and I would like to keep them positive
    Thanks in advance

Can't find a link to the actual interview/speech but The Journal (I know !) are reporting that the boss of Pfizer is saying there are encouraging signs their vaccine stops transmission and more concrete data will be available in February.
    Great news if true.

Sure if they are not going to do the teachers until June, they may as well leave them until August:P

Good too that they will have data from trials on the safety of the vaccine for 12-16 year olds pretty soon.

Strange tweet by the EMA. I personally haven’t seen anyone calling for the J&J vaccine to be sped up. It was all about the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine.... make of it what you will, I think it’s member states putting pressure on the EMA to be the enablers

How can they do teachers in June, July, August, they'll be on holidays? They'll need to organise a staff training day/week/month.

A lot of promising news in one article, which is conspicuous by its absence on the RTE site of course.

The fact that he is also confident of "very very high efficacy" of their vaccine against the two new variants is reassuring.

That has some very encouraging snippets of information:
The CureVac vaccine is in the third testing phase; if it cannot apply for authorisation by this Spring, it aims to produce the BioNTech vaccine.

With the recent Bayer partnership, that would mean Pfizer and Bayer working together. Amazing!

Great to hear this (especially about the SA variant):
Dr Bourla said that after a number of in vitro experiments, it appears that it will have a very high efficacy against these variants.

Some in silico studies have suggested similar as well.

Since more news is coming out about J&J. They are on month 3 of the 2 shot trail.

Good news is I've been approved for the 2 shot trail. I'm getting my first stot of the J&J one tomorrow.

I'll be monitored for 2 years after the shot.

Well, I've had my shot today,

I did have to sign my life away to J&J, (Sorry to my wife you're not getting the life insurance just yet :pac: )

Not much paperwork to fill out in the end and it was mostly common sense anyway.

A few vials of blood to see if I have Covid antibodies (I have never tested positive)
2 covid tests were done (One for J&J and one for the NHS)

Then the jab, into the muscle in my upper arm, A small spazam which they expected as its an injection into your arm. (No pain tbh)

It's a 50% chance I had the J&J jab, The other 50% is saline injection.

Since I had it a couple of hours ago feeling fine, a Small bit of a headache, and a sore arm.

In 57 days I go back for another jab. I have to do an ediary with body temp and blood oxygen levels for the next 2 years! But I have been doing that with the local virus checker anyway.

The good news is if I am offered an other approved vaccine I can talk to the doctor who is doing the trial, They will tell me if I had the placebo or if I had the vaccine. If the results for the vaccine are good and I had the vaccine I won't need another vaccine but if the results are not as good as they are expecting they will recommend I go get another vaccine.

I love this thread and now I will be part of the results people are talking about :)

Fair play, hope it goes well.

That's good I was actually wondering about that as I read your post.

Out of curiosity, what technology is the j&j single dose vaccine, mRNA or your old school "dead virus" kind of thing?

The Pfizer jab appears to be like kryptonite to covid, its efficacy, along with the moderna one is staggeringly good. They've both nearly changed the game in terms of efficacy.

Last March when this all kicked off for us, if someone said within a year you'd have a brand new technology that can deliver the data we're seeing, you'd have called them mad.

I do wonder in the long term, will this pandemic have paved the way for one of the most exciting medical discoveries ever.

    Yes, mRNA does seem promising.

Read this excerpt from an interview with the Chairman of Moderna:

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/health/johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccine.html

But in essence, it's a deactivated Adenovirus (Like the common cold) and the Covid 19 protein.

They have used the same tech for a vaccine for Zekka & Ebola.

I remember Luke O'Neill saying a while back that the RNA technology could have huge potential in various fields of medicine, including cancer. He was very enthusiastic about it.

Fair play to you! I wonder seeing that you had a slight headache side effect would that possibly mean you could have had the real deal? Or can placebo jabs cause the same?
