Daughter got tested today ! Does anyone know the turn around time and are the labs working over xmas

Turnaround time should not be effected. Multiple reports from people in the 'Have you been tested' thread getting results around 30 hours or less.

Yes labs will be working 24/7/365 as they always are for all patient testing, not just for Covid.

I suppose it’s to do with the total mismanagement of outbreaks in hospitals and they want to stop that then hit the nursing homes with bigger batches!!

You're right. So that means when they arrive they won't be left in storage until the 11th.

I'm probably just looking for some hope on a tough Christmas eve: but what are the regulars thoughts on when the first 14 of the 15 vaccination groups in Ireland will be all done?

Your best case scenario and/or the timeline you think will be most likely

I keep having this horrible feeling that the HSE will completely balls this up

It's at the centre of their wheelhouse and at the top of their CV: "Hi, we're the HSE. We balls things up"

There's no live virus involved in the current vaccines, so this isn't an issue.

Thanks..I know there is no live virus in this one ... managed to find part of the answer via UK re immunosuppressed

    https://www.sps.nhs.uk/articles/using-the-pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-in-immunosuppressed-patients/

And regarding previous anaphylactic shock for the other half

    https://www.sps.nhs.uk/articles/pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-cautions-and-contraindications/

A mixed result one no and one yes... hope this helps others ... remember to check the Irish advice and for any updates along the way. Have a talk with your elder folk and make sure their medical records are up to date and if unsure talk to their GP or specialist about weighing the balance of dis/advantages.

A reminder if you are getting the vaccine please take care over the coming months as there are a small minority of people who are high risk that cannot take this one at least.

This will be the hardest time for them until community immunity takes hold.. with some people possibly being asymtomatic but still infectious... as people will understandably be raring to get back to normal socializing etc

Good luck and health to you all.

wow i actually thought that holiday til 11th january thing was true. Isnt it shocking to think I wouldnt have been at all surprised by it. I think EU needs to grab us by the scruff of the neck and make us follow them step by step, HSE and NYPHET will try to drag this out all year

Your using a lie to justify why you have a negative opinion.

Yes, vaccinations starting on frontline workers next week.

Tested at 12:40 today , negitive results at 9pm to be fair that's a great turnaround

I had read that they would be administered before January but wasn't sure if it was definite. Then the Irish Times article worried me because it seemed very late considering the vaccines would be in the country.

After reading your post I googled again and found where it said the 30th.
Obviously I care about nursing home residents getting vaccinated but I'm just happy that the roll out is beginning sooner.

Happy Christmas to all on here. Hopefully this time next year we'll be saying 'nearly done' rather than 'nearly beginning' vaccinations.

Hopefully we'll be dying of a hangover from the night of the 23rd in the pub rather than on boards optimistically looking for vaccine news.

Happy Christmas to all. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable one and we have plenty to look forward to in 2021.

Do you really want to go down the road of how many ways they've ballsed things up for 20 years?

First we complain there is no vaccine, then there's not enough of it, then the date of vaccinations starting, then it'll be the "poor rollout" and finally we'll be on the case of the non-vaccinated!

    Firstly, I qualified my remarks.

Secondly, my criticism of the HSE is not off target. I will not be wrong on this

The lack of humanity in this country is something else.

I was speaking to a friend in Germany tonight. His mother is in a nursing home, yet she was able to visit the house today for Christmas dinner - they did antigen testing on the family for risk analysis.

Welcome to the new normal. According to this vaccine will work for at least 8 months. It seems that whoever wants it will need to take an average of 6 jabs every 2 years.

Guessing you haven't a breeze what 'at least' means so? And just think about it for a second - we only have about 8 months data, so they literally can't claim that it works for any longer.

Unsurprisingly it was 6 months 2 months ago!

That paper is about wild type infection immune response durability. It's actually looking rather good, the RBD directed memory B cells have undergone some maturation, so this confirms the Rockefeller University findings about germinal centers being rescued later in convalescence. That's good as the early antibodies are not all that great at dealing with single point mutants, the more matured ones are much better at that job.
Btw. This paper does not concern itself with vaccines at all.

Hard to know for sure, but IMO if they are done prior to schools back in September then its game over for Covid...
Also if the high risk groups are done for spring / summer, then we should see real relaxations in the restrictions.

The dates when each nursing home will be vaccinated.

Happy Christmas folks, we're near to the end of this.

Each Residential Care Facility will be allocated a ‘day one’ (first vaccination) and ‘day 21’ (second vaccination). All residents and staff will be invited to consent in advance and then receive vaccination on these dates wherever possible.

Does this mean that the facility will have both first and second vaccines on-site at the same time?

Is that just the Pfizer vaccine? So when moderna rolls out in mid Jan that can focus on HCW and other vulnerable people? Jesus, I'm almost optimistic.......

Hope the frontline staff are between 30/12 and 11/01. Ireland could end up way behind if the 11 January is the start date.

Delighted to see vaccines being rolled out though. The end is near. Happy Christmas.
