That can’t be right. Bowers saying thats coming from the Vice-President of the Irish College of GPs, Prof Tom O’Dowd.

Are other groups under 70 being vaccinated with the Oxford vaccine concurrently to the over 70s with other vaccines? If we only have over 70s and healthcare workers/nursing home residents done by mid June that's a disgrace.

Wouldn't tally with my own GP anyway.

Someone else posted a timeline here last night or this morning that GPs had gotten I think it was.

Family member in with our GP today basically was working off the same list. End of April she expects to be completed all over 70s with 2 doses and she's a large practise

That's a serious drop . It really gives the impression when people are over 60 that should be it with most restrictions

Don't think so with our government but you would think that would make a big difference alright

    Very encouraging data from Israel

Must be a typo. God, the quality of journalism has taken an absolute nosedive in the last few weeks.

Agree. Blanket statement like that without saying its from a single person is highly unprofessional and very unlike Bowers.

Seems to based on Pfizer staying at 40k per week and Moderna not kicking in at 10k a week until end of the month. Both are meant to increase deliveries in April, but no clarity at all yet on how soon into q2 this will actually happen.

Pretty sure Pfizer have said they're back to full capacity and the increase in delivery would kick in around this week

Realistically J & J should also be in use by May at the latest. A third of trial participants were over 60 so shouldn't be any issue using that in over 70's.

Italian Janssen CEO expects EMA approval in March

They seem to have the same manufacturing hiccups as others so wouldn't expect massive supply straight away but would be great to have another one available soon.

Good to see, 1 dose is massive

Mid-june is a very pessimistic estimate one would think. Once J&J is involved and AZ is full speed then there's no excuse not to be speeding through the following groups

I'm expecting it to be a reporting cock-up tbh

But do we have any news on J&J supplies? I had read that their initial US supplies would be pretty low, seen nothing about the EU. IF its anything like Moderna, it'll barely have an effect.

Genuine question, its difficult to get excited about it without any idea of supply figures.

Bowers is rowing back on his claims now, tweeting that the taskforce is aiming for mid-May with all over 70s done. MacCraith (head of task force) has liked a few tweets in the replies that are saying Bowers is wrong.

Unusual for Bowers to get caught

Mid May is still slow but mid June would have been awful

Between now and mid June we are projected to have at least ~2m doses of Pfizer/BioNtech and Moderna. We only need half that for the the >70's.
Mid to late April is possible but it could be pushed into early May with delays or depending on how many we hold back for second doses.

Does anyone know if It is true that the AZ vaccine is only 10% effective against the SA virus or is it a certain poster pulling that figure out of his hoop?

Depends on what you're asking, but essentially:

In a small group study, no severe symptoms were noted, some mild to moderate symptoms were noticed.

So the answer is that it's 100% effective against dying from that small study (the important thing we're trying to stop), but it's efficacy is lower against the SA variant (I'm guessing that because it produces a lesser immune response than the mRNA vaccines, the ability for the body to generate antibodies quickly enough to fully overwhelm the virus is diminished, so you do get a few symptoms).

In younger people the immune response is probably fine, with a drop off as people get older and their immune system doesn't respond as strongly.

Highly caveated study that didn't adhere to the dosing schedule to start with.
