Actally would be more like 40,000 to 60,000 left inthe fridge,

    10K +40K +40K. use 20K....hmmm

10k + 30k current in the country = 40k here. Half kept back, enough for 20k.

Next week 40k arrive, enough for another 20k.

Well published this will be how it is for the inital few weeks while supply timelines are met by Pfizer. First few deliveries arrive on time then all doses are given out.

I would be surprised if they have even administered the low end of a few hundred dose so far.

why why hold back 20K, give me an example of another country doing it, it is spin as usual to avoid showiung how far behind they are,

515 administered in CUH today and yesterday alone.

    Nice one

Maybe you can inform the heads of the HSE who seem to be fully unaware of the administration numbers

A friend of mine working for J&J in America says that the vaccine manufacturers are very worried now about simple raw materials e.g. glass vials. It seems the manufacturers of glass vials cannot keep on top of the orders. Interesting one.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

If that IT system is up and running they should know precisely how many people (and who) have been vaccinated, I would have thought. Wouldn't be surprised if they wait a couple of days so the number is a bit more substantial though

Looking at the 6 one news and they don't know how many people tested positive the past few days

I was talking to one of the countries senior surgeons last week. He said when we have an adequate supply of vaccine doses, we should be able to complete 100,000 a week.

Looking at the Six 1 News I find myself disgusted with The Government. All the Pussyfooting around has landed us where we are now . It was never going to be different

Quite a mess being reported at the NPHET news conference this evening, 4,000 positive cases somehow not in the system, testing of close contacts ceasing, vague at best the information being given on numbers vaccinated so far and despite colm Henry saying role out to a further 15 hospitals next week, when asked which ones, he had no answer.

Maybe I've completely misunderstoid but this is looking like a cluster**** and this aside from the increasing numbers in hospital and high daily numbers on new cases. Reporting IT systems seem to be collapsing. Tony Houlihan when interviewed on morning Ireland was asked if government had listened to previous recommendations would we be in this position, the Answer was quite telling. Mehole and Leo blaming new strain (complete B*****) , Houlihan saying increased socialising over the past few weeks (I say shopping frenzys) to blame.

Not a good end to a horrid year, seems a few weeks of Greed is about to bite us in the Ass.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Biden's team are going to invoke the Defense Production Act immediately and get these made (at least for the US market). Still, it will free up supply elsewhere. Trump's administration is missing in action completely, they're worried in the US now that millions of doses will expire because they are not in the right places.

I think it will need to peak higher than that, maybe closer to double it.

Stupid question maybe but can the vials be sterilised and refilled? like milk bottles used to be

Biden can invoke all he likes, creating something from raw materials not available will achieve little. He's about to inherit something nearing impossible to resolve, we've got it bad but mother of God its horrendous in the US. They can even roll out available vaccines without clocking it up.

If we vaccinate 40k for the first 3 weeks, no one new gets vaccinated for the next 3 as all doses will be required for the second dose

A good time to prompt the notoriously throwaway Yanks to do more recycling.Glass is, as far as we know, an infinitely recyclable material, only problem is the slow process.
I remember posting about the probable shortages of vials, syringes, packaging etc way back in the summer so I'm sure it hadn't escaped the notice of greater minds than mine, I reckon there just isn't enough glass, as you say.

Likely it's a combination of the variant and the increased socialising. Shopping I'd be very cautious blaming, as that's more than always a controlled situation with precise measures taken such as reduced customer capacity, sanitisation stations, enforced mask wearing, social distancing, etc.

FYP. Sorry but people going about their normal lives is not greed.

Agree with you about the cluster**** though. Was it ever going to be any other way with the HSE. I'm just clinging onto hope that they will have to change their ways after other EU counties get going a bit quicker and show them up for what they are.
Ps I am not talking about the majority of good people working within the HSE.

When emptied they are biological waste. I’m not sure there are available facilities to recycle biological waste.

You're still in a better place as thousands will achieve immunity 3 weeks earlier. Also you are assuming that no new vaccine will be approved by then, which is apparently a major "sin" on here.

Pop. ~(5m people * 2 doses/person) / (0.1m doses/week) = 100 weeks. We really need Janssen to come good. Or to put it a different way either the gov. (country vaccinated by end of summer) or your "senior surgeon" is talking shiite.

    (Nice name)

There is a difference between actually being classed as biological waste and actually being biological waste.

Obviously, if they are just chucked in a container along with the syringes needles and whot not they will be contaminated. This does however does not have to happen.

After all they are not biological waste after the first, second and third doses have been extracted, there is nothing magical about the fifth one.

    I wonder how 515 became 600. :D

Maybe they ordered 515 and with 6 rather than 5 in each vial. that accounts for 600+

515 was the planned number. They must have had extra doses/time.

An industry would still have to be set up and developed to recycle them. That would likely take months, at the very least, to put in place. It would be quiet a complex thing to do.
