Recovered from 222 back to almost 300

It would appear someone's created a new one. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wallstreetbetsnew/

Reminds me of the early days of Napster in 1999 and hearing about it on SkyNews.

It's definitely history making one way or the other. I don't care so much if a few hedge funds take a bath but hoping it's not a bath on the normal retail investors. If it's for small amounts that they can lose then fine but hopefully not serious amounts. Would prefer it be the hedge funds though personally.

One good thing that could come out of this is to reduce the ability to short a company so heavily. It really feels like kicking someone when they are down which is all too easy in a pandemic where businesses can't even open. That's the one positive is companies like AMC might have been benefiting to some extent, perhaps help them survive. I like to think that cinema's will continue to exist in the future. It would be bleak without them. Gamestop on the other hand is tricky to justify going forward unless they change the business. Internet connections have just become fast enough to download everything, so why have the middleman and with cloud gaming you don't even need to download the game.

I'll happily eat my hat if I'm wrong but NOK has too many shares available for a short squeeze to work I think.

It's already had a higher short interest than AMC.

  • Registered Users Posts: 147 ✭✭Bodjhrjekekr

How do Gamestop and AMC benefit, do they get a percentage even if people sell their shares and it crashes?

I actually think AMC shares will bounce back in the future anyway, whenever 'normal' resumes, could be like 5 years time to be fully back. I think people will want to go back to the simple times when we could go to the cinema.
I was looking at the 5 year graph though, and even before corona their shares were going down a lot year on year, I'm not sure why

I honestly don't know if they do benefit. If it was me I'd have been doing an offering of new shares and that way they would benefit from reduced borrowing.

AMC have benefited by selling 300m worth of stock today

It actually did save AMC: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/amc-movie-theater-avoid-bankruptcy/

I just don't get the ins and outs of it really

That was just a loan. I was thinking they could pay off the loan with a new offering of shares. Although they are probably smart enough to know that if they do that the shares will just tank anyway so they are just going to ride it out.

Totally agree on that. It's like when they tried to close down Napster, then you had limewire and torrents... It just moves around. There will always be another discord group and another forum.

I don't think Burry has ever said a single thing that I disagreed with.

Wow interesting night, i was in the discord and while it was a chaotic mess i honestly didnt see a lot of hate speech so im pretty suspicious about the real reasons for killing it.

Heres a good thread explaining how the short covers might likely operate though too https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/l6o7ed/since_it_got_removed_when_do_we_sell_a_quick

In DEGIRO is it possible to buy a share and set a limit by which if it increases or decreases by a certain % the share is automatically sold.

Can you recommend a platform that supports after hours trading?
    Thanks

Afaik no retail apps support after hours or pre market.

Check Degiros faqs for how to use their orders https://www.degiro.ie/helpcenter/faq/orders/1122

Is anyone touching these on Euro exchanges before the US opens this afternoon?

If the casino atmosphere remains I will. This isn't investing.

Firstly its always been a casino, secondly, youve been involved since November i don't think you or to be honest anyone else gets to say what is or isn't investing.

This is literally the attitude that's fueling this whole thing now, the arrogant entitlement of "your not playing the game right".

Sorry I'm off topic, so I'll just keep tipping Magnis Resources ( ASX:MNS ) for a long term play (2 years). They're going from mining all the way to manufacture/supply of rechargable batteries + building more gigafactories . Musk himself says he won't have enough supply from his own gigafactories. Plus they have new technology with fast charge (85% charge from empty in 6 mins). The aim for Musk is to have private houses buying their own battery pack from him and then using solar to go off grid (obviously in Australia first) , so I'm hoping Magnis will be planning the same with their plant in Townsville.
I've been tipped these first on here at 47c and gotton burned but averaged down again when they were about 10c. They seem to be ebbing back down again from new level hovering at 20c so I might wait till 15c or so.
Not putting in major money, just selling off my trash green cannabubble stocks and seeing if I can make a silk purse from a sows ear.
It's a little entertaining to watch the ASX when everyone else is in bed over in the Western hemisphere too.

Anyone know who tipped them first ? It was about 2017.

Just for some nostalgia, I think theres still a bit of gas in the tank. Although I know there were a fair few burned on here before.

Could be a shakedown this week, but with production due to start in 2022 theres a long road ahead.

Only problem is I'm always asleep when the ASX is partying.

How do you know that that the short positions haven't been closed out?

Is there anyway of seeing what the short position is as of today?

Firstly they havent been closed out there hasnt been enough movement to allow all the short positions to be closed and if they were closed the price would be on the floor.

Also there was a report yesterday showing the current shorts were still at 139%

The reports on cnbc etc claiming melvin and citron had closed out were lies and quite simply illegal market manipulation.

My shares are on the Frankfurt exchange, a good few mornings this week if you were so inclined you could of left in a sell order for a relatively high price and would of caught it .

The only reason i bought on euro exchange was i thought originally there would be some addiitonal tax or something when working on the NYSE , but outside of the currency variations i dont think there is a downside.

r/wallstreetbets working fine for me this morning, I was subbed previously but never posted on there. Looks normal (well as normal as it ever was!)
SLV seems to be gaining traction as a next target.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
