Why have Gamestop said nothing? Surely they should be releasing more shares to gather in a pile of cash? If they did this, even if the stock later plummeted back to near where it was, the new board combined with a pile of cash would allow them to attack the online space better, and would altogether improve the fundamentals of the company. If they raise cash this way and the stock later totally plummets I would be tempted to buy some stock when it hits bottom to sit on for a while with a view to the long term.

Not as simple as this, there are very strict rules that the board have to work within. A special resolution needs to be agreed by shareholders at tha AGM as to how many new shares can be issued and this is to protect shareholders being diluted to death. The resolution could be held with an EGM but again there is a minimum notice period to convene an EGM.

The board are there to run the company and are legally constrained to a large degree with interfering with the market.

This "release more shares" would only be sold to big corporates, and they aren't going to buy it at this levels. Simialrly, nobody is going to allow Gamestop take them over using stock as they usually would, as again, the price is very misleading.

There's not a whole lot they can do with the current circumstance

Didn't Hertz "release more shares" last summer and a bunch of Robinhood traders bought them? Even though they were bankrupt :D

Interactive Brokers are the only broker I use that have it listed. It's a bit of an obscure one, hence if you can get it now, it's cheap, if it lists on AIM/OTC exchanges it will become more accessible and price will go up with more buyers

When this is all over, we'll see that there were an awful lot of newbies who bought in at the top and lost it all.

If you're new to this and buying in now, you're like the guy who bought that apartment in Bulgaria off the plans on the recommendation of his taxi driver.

    :pac:

    Perfect analogy

This is the investment and markets forum. I'd suggest anyone who is totally bored and wants to do nothing other than gamble on stocks go create a thread on the gambling forum.

    Erm

The stock market is gambling though

So how do people think this short squeeze will end up?

I'm guessing SEC steps in and forces trades.

I think it ends when people work out that they have been misled and lost everything. Most people with a brain will have exited with profit before then.

Pre-market in the morning will be very interesting. For once on a Monday I won't have to drag myself out of bed!

The stock market offers you the opportunity to invest and to gamble.

Some people go for a mix of both.

Anyone investing in individual shares is trending a bit more towards the gambling for sure. Someone in a diversified index would be more considered investing. But there is the opportunity to properly gamble casino style on the stock market in things like penny shares for example. The stock market offers all levels of risk to those who seek it.

You must be great craic at parties with you glass half empty outlook. You come across as just another stock snob who's annoyed by everyone suddenly jumping aboard and having fun doing what you think should only be serious business for proper investors.

Go on tell us how you really feel.....

By definition of the word it is absolutely gambling no matter how much research and due diligence you do there is no certainty in anything with regards to the stock market.

If I put my money into silver instead of $gme am I not a traitor to the cause?

btw, I've just noticed that 'Lumens ok' is an anagram of 'Elon Musk'. Coincidence? I don't bleedin' think so.

Outside of my meme holding, I currently hold:

    AMD
PLTR (I've held this since Nov so I'm not counting it as meme!)

I'll be investing monthly this year and will be adding DIS and MSFT. I'll probably hold 15-20% of my capital for riskier plays along the way.

Gambling is illegal in most US States, investing isn't.
