    No

    :D

Clara had a note from her parents which the competition's governing committee have reviewed and given an exemption, her perseverance and non-flakiness was said to be the deciding factor

Anyway, one of my best friends lectures at MIT on Artificial Intelligence. There is a best selling book called "Machine Crowd Platform", he was a researcher on it. Interesting stuff about how traditional economic principles are being bypassed by "science fiction" technologies.

Encyclopedias are covered in one part of the book, how with the start of the internet Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales wanted to set up a free on-line encyclopedia, hired subject experts with PhDs to write the entries, they spent $250,000 and had 12 articles written in 18 months.

On January 15th 2001 they set up Wikipedia, how many articles did it have by the end of January 2001?

For reference - at the end of 2001 there were 19,000

I’ve just come here from reading the guardian who have an article today ‘Wikipedia is 20’, which I read about 10 minutes ago. Sadly it didn’t mention how many articles Wikipedia had published in its first two weeks.

Yeah there was an article on the BBC too which I did read. Don't remember it mentioning anything that could help me answer the question.

Unless it was 19,001, you're grand in the same boat as the rest of us :)

Well as we saw the other night with the swimming question if anyone had guessed 101% they would have been closest to the right answer. :D

    Evening everyone

Glad to see this was such an on point question

Every once in a while someone comes along with an answer that is so wrong that its almost the sum of all the other answers

Tonight is one of those occasions

So the correct answer was 617, a lot of people were in and around that but Seph was closest

Unfortunately Collie assumed most of the years entries were in the first two weeks, we say goodbye to him

I was initially gonna put 666, but thought it was a bit too high for a brand new site to gain that much traction in its first two weeks, especially back in 2001, figuring that it would gain popularity and grow as the year went on...

Should've stuck with the number of the beast though, and I'd be walking away with a bye today...

    Hail Satan!

Maybe not a crazy thought that they'd have tried to launch big...? Wrong, but maybe not crazy

    Bye Collie!

Jesus. I should be banned from the forum for that answer. Better to go bust in style I suppose :)

Best of luck to those remaining. I’ll be keeping an eye on the remainder anyway.
