Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Glass after breaking on stove

Another old house calamity again (there’s still a hole in my ceiling roof from the plumbing debacle) Was burning a log and the glass door of the sitting room stove broke when I hit off it. It’s an ugly old stove front and I’m wondering how easy it is for a professional to replace the glass door. I doubt that these stoves are still being produced.

Stove glass can be ordered cut to size and is usually a straight forward replacement.

Thanks alias no.9 for the quick reply. What about replacing the ugly front door ... would that be a big job?

It's unlikely you would get an off the shelf door that fits. It'd probably be cheaper to replace the stove than get a door made up to fit.

alias no.9, probably a daft question but would it be possible to paint the stove door (it’s a really ugly beige) & replace the glass? Thanks again

    Yes it should be.

Talk to a fire and stove shop and they will answer all your questions and give you prices and options.

You can clarify what they say here if you think they are just focused on making as big a sale as possible.

There are specialist stove paints. They often need a small controlled fire lit in the stove after application in order to bake the paint, this can be tricky to get rightl. If its just the door, it might be possible to get it painted and oven baked by a specialist, which could be easier.

Thanks alias no.9 & Tell me how. Fire needs to be working safely on a night like this.
