What's the story with heading to Dingle from tralee tomorrow.
Is it a trip to be avoided?

Overcast now in South Laois from the cloud shield ahead of tonight's system. Air temp is +0.1c and dew point is -1.0c. The 10m wind is a light SW at 2mph, gusting 5mph.

All that's needed in that mix is precipitation, and lots of. 87m above sea level (ASL)

No problem whatsoever, unless you go over Carrauntoohil.

The highest I'd go would be conor pass

Just trying to cover both bases tbh.

Fact is it's nigh on impossible to call because of the margins either way.

Some will certainly get snow, question is how many?

The precip is coming on shore now in the southwest and shortly in to south Connaught.

By the way - the province is called Connacht.
The other name belongs to a British lord

I’d stay away from that route in the morning.

18z ICON is going further south, line from Clare to Waterford precipitation even lighter and patchier. I had a quick look at the satellite images and it looks to be aligned as forecasted by ICON.

It was bound to go pearshaped.

I know this tread doesn't include the northwest and north snow risk but as I mentioned earlier snow streamers moving giving accumulations now in parts of the northwest. Latest image was send to me showing the back of Errigal Road, Donegal in the last 20 Minutes.

ICON not showing much snow if any but the French models are which is something as they never overdo the snow. Looks light .

EURO 4 giving it a pass also.

WRF is giving the most snow but it also has the lowest 850 hPa temperatures.

    Moderate drizzle at Kerry Airport.

Even if there were to be record breaking blizzards tonight, that would still start as rain in Kerry. No one forecast anything other than that, so no problems with Kerry airport reporting same at this stage (for anyone misinterpreting that info from GL).

Meteorite58s post above actually gives me renewed hope for Cork snow....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,151 ✭✭✭Rebelbrowser

Met E update from just after midnight as follows

    "...Tonight

Showers in the north and west, some falling as sleet or snow, with drier conditions and clear spells elsewhere early tonight. Rain will move in from the Atlantic over Munster, falling as sleet or snow in places later in the night. Very cold with frost and ice developing as temperatures fall to between 0 and minus 3 degrees. Westerly or variable breezes will be light.

    Tomorrow

Very cold tomorrow morning with frost and ice. Rain, sleet and snow in southern areas will clear southeastwards during the morning and early afternoon, with bright spells and scattered wintry showers following from the northwest. It will stay cold through the day with temperatures only rising a degree or two above freezing, and just slightly higher in western coastal areas. Winds will be generally light or moderate, varying in direction and becoming northerly later in the day...."

My chart, based on Met Éireann's 06Z aviation chart. Not great.

No sign of the rain even turning to sleet yet on the NW radar and intensity looking, well, not very intense! Early days but that needs to change soon

Heavy rain here in the past few minutes, falling as wet hail. N Clare

Well. yes, because at the end of your journey you'll be in Dingle.

Well. yes, because at the end of your journey you'll be in Dingle.

You are forgetting that the alternative is to stay in Tralee!

Try using this one instead. Does not differentiate sleet though.
