A lot of garda cheerleaders here, but people need to understand that when it comes to mental health issues, the gardai are utterly inept and it is only in the last few months that they have employed someone to actually devise an education strategy to give a basic level of understanding to gardai.

Whilst I won't say this was murder, it certainly is a disgusting road the gardai have gone down and I sincerely hope gsoc do a proper investigation, but I doubt it.

He’d assaulted somebody, he was in possession of a deadly weapon, he attempted to access a residential premises with the weapon, he refused to cooperate with the Gardai.

The Gardai have as their first responsibility to protect the citizens of this state, a man entering a residential premises with a deadly weapon, having already used that weapon acted proportionately and effectively.

They let him in the house, the possibility of carnage up to and including death of innocent people was very real.

The Gardai cannot put the welfare of this individual ahead of anybody else. He is the danger, the aggressor, whatever if any mental illness is secondary. They have a duty to protect the citizens of this country and each other, they succeeded. In the process, the suspect died, that is unfortunate but he died as a result of the choices he made, mental illness or not, for the safety of everyone he needed to be stopped. He was in possession of a deadly weapon and had shown a determination and willingness to use it against people.

If you are black, white, Asian, or from the North Pole... that was a satisfactory outcome all things considered, especially the danger he posed. Nobody knew who was in the premises, if they had waited to find out it might have been or probably would have been by counting the body bags.

Ah yeah I forgot, this is all Leo's fault ay???

    Like everything in this country.

When people have no personal responsibility its Leo's fault.

I don't get the obsession with Leo Varadkar in this country.

    It's a mystery.

    Isn't it just? ;)

That Paul Murohy tweet is hilarious.

The ASU member is assessing a live and very dangerous situation, watching body language, having to be aware of where everyone else is. If he shoots and the bullet passs through the body what or who is behind, what if i miss, what if theres a jam, always thinking and then making the decision one that they are trained to do as a last resort...pull the trigger

You have this fookwit Murphy asking if the Garda was swayed by the colour of his skin... gob****e..

Try process all that under severe stress in a volatile situation

Sure, look at the way the more right leaning members of his party have been treated. Ousted by the wokeness of Kate O'Connell and her ilk. Even last week a 19 year old member was asked to resign because he stated a dislike for KOC when she lost her seat. Nothing more. Those boys aren't going anywhere and I can guarantee they aren't going to lose their interest in politics just like that. They will go elsewhere.

Love that all the left politicians who have disgraced themselves the last 24 hours screaming racism are been let off but Simon Harris who hasn't even commented yet and Leo are to blame:)

    The left strikes again.

As I stated before, I was attacked with a machete a few years ago by a family member and the ERU were called. All of them had body cams. When I was chatting to the main guy, telling him “what room he was in, how big the blade was, would he have any other weapons in the room etc.” My eyes kept being drawn to a red light on his chest. He told me that it was just a body cam, and they all wore them for evidence in case anything bad happened.

The ERU do not wear body cams. Ever

    Not really.

I could take a guess but I'd be banned.

Lynn Ruane and glamorous? An oxymoron surely?

On a serious note, she epitomizes the low quality public representative currently in vogue in this country. I have no idea how this inarticulate, classless woman has been elevated to a position of influence.

What’s next for the future? Our glorious leader Hazel Chu, ably assisted by her deputy Ebun Joseph?

2020 has been a sh1t year full of horrific imagery but that last sentence of yours tops it all.

I'd be leaving Ireland if that day ever actually came to pass

No Garda gives a rats what color his skin is... I wouldn’t give that Murphy dickhead a vote if he was the only candidate.

Has anyone taken on the protestors yet? Some talk earlier on that some groups were organising to square up to them but maybe that was BS.

This entire protest is really misplaced. I can understand a community feeling trauma after losing a friend, a brother etc, etc; But when someone is gunned down after rampaging through a town wielding a machete?? how can anyone look for justice for the perpetrator. Who shouted up calling for justice for the perps who carried out atrocities on London bridge etc - There is a dangerous community of people here who seem to think they stand above the law and what is worse we have some really ill meant political comments from people who seem to just enjoy incitement. I hope the community of Hartstown can come together and grieve their losses but be thankful they are minded by garda - this could have resulted in fatalities of many more in their community - Who would be protesting then?

Lynn Ruane posting glamorous selfies after a hard day of stirring racial tensions. You go girl. Takes a special kind of narcissism to be able to switch gears like that.

I seen the little video of her, glamorous she is not

Miles behind reading this thread but think this is a great point. Talking to a friend earlier who is black and that was his view ànd am sure there are plenty like that. Awkward for him but he was clear enough about what he thought.

Wss also remembering reading about the first black Garda maybe e years ago and pretty sure he was stationed in Blanch. If he is still there it must be tough for him given the context.

So much sympathy for the injuref shop worker and the Garda who made the decision to shoot. Also have human sympathy for the family of the man shot.

But the reaction of the demented bans of SJWs and some political figures who should know better is astounding. They are doing absolutely nothing but making many normal working and moderate people angry. They are sowing unnecessary division and making a bad situation worse.

The ultimate irony is that they will drive some peoples opinions towards the likes of Gemma O'Doherty and her crazy cohorts

How must it be tough for a black Garda? Why would it be any tougher for a black Garda dealing with a black scumbag than it would be for a white Garda dealing with a white scumbag?

Have any politicians condemned the actions of all of the "protestors" today?

Genuinely starting to worry about my safety in the future as someone who doesn't live in a lovely Southside area.

Paul Murphy wants the overthrow of the State and its replacement with a "worker's republic", anything that destabilises the State is good news for him, regardless of the origin. A carpetbagger.

No, all of our politicians are on the woke spectrum. It's disgraceful.

Folks on here criticising the guards are mental. A deranged knife-wielding attacker is hard to stop and a very scary experience I'm sure.

This is the reality of what they face:

I'm failing to see how it's silly though. Have you seen the videos from today?

They cornered an old woman in Blanch car park and wanted to attack her if she hadn't been protected by one of the members of the same gang.

They went on a total rampage today and.. nothing happened. Nobody's spoken out about what they've done, no mention of arrests being made.

We had the resources to protect the mosques in Dublin after the Christchurch shooting all the way across the world in New Zealand. Where's the protection for the 'white' Irish people who were quite clearly targeted today?

Yep, people thinking we have a problem like Alabama in the 60's with systematic racism or something. Bonkers. Social media has really created a dumbed down society.

Saw some videos being sent around about the protest. One has them screaming, "No justice, No peace"

Are they serious ? GSOC is investigating the incident and everything will be released in due course. Sounds like they are just stirring this stuff, claiming things are as bad as it is in the US.

Also would like to know, how many of the kids protesting today, their parents came over here claiming asylum. I would say a good 70% or more, they have been given a good life here with housing etc provided and now they chant, "No justice, No peace" ?
