    My wife lost her phone.
Her old phone’s number is with Tesco Mobile.
She bought a new mobile in Tesco and asked for the SIM to be reassigned to her old number.
For some reason the guy there said he couldn’t do that for GDPR.
Does anyone know how to proceed?
This seems like a lot of red tape.

Had she previously registered her name and address with the old SIM to register it? There's strict criteria now for changing as people have their mobile phone numbers linked to bank accounts and email addresses so they won't transfer to a new SIM without 100% verification of the person being who they say they are. Not sure what the outcome will be if no previous registration was entered with Tesco. If she previoiusly purchased credit for the phone through her bank account or debit card that might help for verifying ID.

Try the 'Help Centre' on Tescomobile.ie. They seem to offer the solution.

I guess if she gets a copy of a previously filled up form e.g. to the bank, from a year or 2 ago where she specified her phone number and the PPS Number to add more weight.
    That should surely be enough.

If it is an unregistered number then in order to prove ownership of the number they will ask for some recently dialled numbers ,the pin number for the SIM and when the number was last topped up and how .
