Look like they’re all out of contract

    DTM
    Dunne
    Sob
    De buitlear
All in 3 year of academy

Need to keep Roux obviously. Cillian Gallagher has a lot of natural attributes but has really struggled with injury.

Papalii has a lot of attributes too, think he is definitely worth a punt for another twelve months if possible.

O’Donnell hasn’t played much but thought he looked decent off the bench recently, I can’t recall against who... Given his injury was known when he arrived would seem a bit strange if he’s. Or given another year.

Seems like DTM would be obvious contract. De Buitlear suffered with long term injury, thought he was good defensively in the few games he got last season and always like to see indigenous players succeed but not sure there will be room for him.

Have a lot of Centre options may cost SOB? I haven’t seen much of him or Dunne.

Connacht said contract negotiations are still on going and further announcements to be made in due course, hopefully that’d be roux.

Roux seems like a player who would thrive in France, must be some clubs in with substantial offers but hopefully he sticks around.

Hopefully Roux is just playing hardball on the contract, but with the South African teams getting added to the league, maybe a move to one of those teams wouldn't be out of the question. Fingers crossed he stays.

I think Gallagher would be a good pick up for another province! He would be relatively cheap. Shame about Stephen Fitz. I thought he would have been a cracking player.

Not all negotiations are finished yet. Still a chance one or both is kept on.

Papalii and bod are two I think we’re on one year deals. Was Arnold one or two?

Arnold, dowling and aungier all signed two year deals

Can't imagine O'Donnell was a 1 year deal when he was due to miss a chunk of it with a torn ACL?

    Paddy McAllister (32) - Loosehead
    Stephen Kerins (25) - Scrumhalf
    Stephen Fitzgerald (25) - Back 3

    Ben O'Donnell (26) - Back 3

With Matthew Burke being renewed I'd guess McAllister might be moving on.

Yeah I'd be shocked if BOD was signed on a one year deal considering it was pretty well known that he'd be missing for most of 2020 still recovering from an injury he got in August 2019.

Duggan looked v good vs cardiff imo and burke is developing nicely so hard to see how they maintain four seniors lhs. Would be a pity because outside of the card against ulster he has been a good performer in most games imo

Yeah he's been good, but I think he was signed on a decent wedge with the idea he would be 1st choice but Buckley has seen him off comfortably enough in the end, and Duggan coming up behind has bags of potential.

Certainly never put much of a foot wrong and it was great to have both himself and Buckley.

I’m sure burke would be considerable cheaper than McAllister, and I would personally have Duggan as second choice next season so would make sense.

Would be concerned for Stephan Fitz future is bod is contracted for next year. Thought it would potentially be a shoot out between the pair of them for a spot

Boyle confirming he signed a two year deal on Twitter. Carty and Bealham only signed a year extension

I might be "chocking" but Roux is a pen machine, constantly injured, 30+, and probably on high money.
He's international for a reason of course, but it may not be a bad call all in all.
Have to find a lock though, with both him and Gallagher not re-signed.
Maybe it could change before July though, half of the season left, this specific year...

I thought Roux had one of his best seasons this season in the games he played. Was leading well and his discipline seemed much improved. I'm really hoping he is one of the ones still in discussions and a deal can be done

Are Connacht doing a Leinster and not announcing contract lengths anymore?

First name on the team sheet every week for me. I'd be very disappointed if he left.

I think so but they've done it for a couple of years. Usually the media that end up reporting the lengths.

Maybe Roux isn't on the list because a central contract to RWC 2023 is about to be announced by IFRU :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,047 ✭✭✭Bazzo

Bealham and Masterson Sr just one year per social media. Thornley mentioned Carty was just one year in the times a few weeks back too.

It's always been a bit of a mixed bag, if you look at the list I posted the players with specified contract lengths were all officially announced. Then a couple haven't been mentioned since 2018. This is the first time we've announced them Leinster style, usually they come out in drips and drabs.

Is there a logic behind not announcing contract length? Only thing I can guess is might reduce media speculation but sure agent will obviously leak if they want to drum up interest.

I remember an old Munster video where Garrett Fitzgerald (RIP) discussed how recruitment works. He mentioned that teams will just contact agents to find out if players are out of contract. I'm not sure it matters whether contract lengths are in the media or not.

I would have thought same, seems strange to be so guarded with the info but there is obviously some logic at work.

Maybe it’s some sort of privacy thing as players are obviously free to announce themselves.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the whole gdpr side of things like similar to injury updates where a player can choose to withhold the info.

Yeah just edited above to say that. Guess it is as players can announce themselves it seems.

I wouldn't think so, since the IRFU announce contract lengths regardless of the player's home province. Healy and Sexton's contracts were confirmed as one year deals. This seems to be a policy by province on their own contracts.

Yeah I dunno. Edinburgh do the same thing as Leinster, their announcement for Jamie Ritchie's extension saying it was the longest contract in club history but not disclosing the actual length of it was bizarre.

Initially was gonna say maybe it's because the IRFU is government funded so direct contracts would have to be public knowledge, but sure by that logic salaries for the contract would have to be published so that's not it either.
