    Or Masterson

If Masterson is poised to play 2nd row more than Papal'i, why is he 20 and Papa 19?

Prendergast moving from blindside to lock when BigPap comes in, I understand, but probably not Masterson this time..

Is masterson not starting at 8 and Oliver at 20?

Andy confirmed on the craggy podcast today that negotiations are ongoing with Quinn. Fingers crossed.

Also confirmed a 2 year deal for prendergast and that Bealham was called into the Ireland squad during the week

A Munster win tonight guarantees 2nd place for Connacht?

I remember him as 7 with McKeon 8 but I trust you :)

Very rarely I think. First choice back row pre injury was Muldoon 6 Heenan 7 Masterson 8 I thinkz SOB & McKeon tended to have lot of injury spells.

He was looking like breaking into the Irish squad as an 8 pre injury

He was a great 8, looking forward to seeing him get a run there tomorrow.

We're mathematically safely in second now after last night.

Huge congrats to the lads for earning CC rugby again. It may never have been more financially important to secure than this season.

Hope mcnulty gets a good run today, very excited to see him

    Started 16 Pro12 games as 8 and 10 as 7.
    Not this conclusive.

For me he's a 6. Not fast enough for 7, no ball-carrying abilities for 8.
And with SOB injuries, it's good to have him mostly there until next year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Well we see Masterson at n°8 as Papal'i will not be around next season...
he's not on the list + a video of highlights on youtube by a member of his familily
    Does not seem great :(

Has he started that many games at 7?? Can’t remember him ever being at 7. Always a 6/8. Pre injury masterson and post injury masterson are two different players. Feel he lost a big it aggression and pace after the injury, form has been picking up and he’s a very intelligent operator now

There was a good while where we had 3 high quality 8s in Muldoon, Masterson and McKeon about (Heenan was usually injured). McKeon and Masterson both played at 7 a bit as Lam tried to figure out the best back row he could field.

Can remember mckeon slotting in at 7 occasionally and fox matamua spotting in when Heenan was out

For once I'm 100% at ease with this
    Good for Bealham
    Good for Aungier/Kenny
Nothing at stake on a result POV
Boyle will be the new Buckley, as best uncapped player in Ireland...

I have full faith boyle will be capped, how many caps is a different story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,590 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

The amount of caps will depend on Boyle. If he is putting in monster performances and his form dictates that he has to play, I assume he will. I think he's a very good player and he will be capped. I would like to see him in a backrow of
    6. Coombes
    7. VDF
    8. Boyle.
I suppose any performances against top quality European sides would be needed. But, I think he's a definite option and look forward to him being capped.

Doris starts ahead of Boyle every time. Think Boyle could make that 20 jersey his own, has played all three back row spots

Boyle has to play 6 again. So that Doris comes back home to Connacht at n°8.
With Oisin McCormarck you have a whole-Connacht back-row for Ireland in RWC 2027 :D

The problem for someone like Boyle is Ireland are well stocked in the backrow probably with the most quality depth we’ve ever had albeit not the strongest backrow. It would be very difficult to push into such a crowded place.

Thornbury is in as good a run of form as I've seen at provincial level

Cian Prendergast is very good, so much intent and aggression to everything he does. Two huge clearouts in a row there on the 22.
