Ulster doing well to avoid a yellow here.

Timoney kneeling on the line in front of Brace.

Poor Will Addison, 1st game in 15 months and has to defend Papali'i for life :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Just as well that was awarded, Ulster pillar again on his hands and knees.

Should have been a yellow tbh or at least a solid warning but nothing.

Well done from Blade great try.

Regardless of the result there is a lot to like to take heart from in this Connacht performance. Oliver has looked like a proper open side. O'Donnell is a back three player who is good in the tackle. Duggan was great again. And Papali'i is looking fit and showing clear signs of improvement. A positive evening.

Yeah, surely that tackle on Dillane was high.

Left a dog leg in midfield and a hole to go through.

Lifters lost Rea. That wasn't a penalty.

It's not just the head-cap, Michael Lowry reminds of Cheslin Kolbe, very evasive powerful runner, and a small target. Great try.

    Footwork from Murray unreal

Personally I'd take the draw... play the percentages but here we go.

Great to get the win. That footwork from
Murray was absolutely exceptional for a second row and crucial to keeping play alive. More impressed ever time I see him, what a prospect.

Oh baby what a satisfying win

    What a game!
    Well done Connacht.

And we thought this Rainbow yoke would be a damp squib.

That was a class game in fairness.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Well that was much much better.

Same if not more convincing than Munster away.

Papali'i is the exact case we exprected : can't tackle but briings a lot ball in hands.

Butler as 7 with Boyle 6 and him 8 might win us games vs physical teams

Murray/Prendergast are the near future. So are Duggan/Aungier

    O'Donnell is good.

SOB 2.0 if unexpected, to be kept.

    Our main issue is 10

And Daly is our player of the season IMO

    Wow amazing.

For a team who are constantly unlucky we smashed the percentages there after the yellow card.
I'd say the inplay betting was high after the YC, then to have the challenge, turn down the draw and convert a low percentage grubber... you wont see many games like that.

    Great performance after the YC.

    The challenge system works.

Rainbow Cup doesn't mean much but a brilliant bit of ruthlessness that we haven't seen enough of.

Of all lads to get it I'm delighted it was Sullivan. He was constantly so close to making that big break all night and to finish that lovely kick behind from Fitzy was utterly beautiful.

Fantastic performance but defense still a big worry. Congrats to the lads.

"I have to go with my TMO...." Even though I don't want to..... Absolutely brilliant finish, and a massive win for us given recent results & performances. Class!!

Captain's challenge was a no brainer given the circumstances, but that's some way to capitalise on it! As I said, class!!

What a finish. The 10 minutes against the yellow Connacht were excellent.

Brilliant win. Really enjoyable game. Good challenge from Boyle. Lowry goes from hero to villain in minutes.

This was really the game that this tournament needed to kick off.

Fitzgerald was vastly better than Carty. Just solid and sensible. Papali'i was excellent although I thought Brace was far too quick to dismiss the challenge by Ulster. Seemed dubious on first watch.

The Captains challenge made the difference in the result.
    Without that..............An Ulster win.

    Bloody good game of Rugby

Didn’t see any head contact at all on the Papali’i tackle to be honest. Although the way it’s gone I half expected him to still be red carded.

Agree, he has been a positive surprise, sharp in attack, want to have a look back at his defence which didn't impress me in some of his previous appearances, but he got in some good tackles tonight.

Captains challenge, marmion didn’t knock on, ulster player played the ball on ground after tackle, penalty Connacht, turned down three points and draw, Fitzgerald drilled it five metre line, Connacht try maul but no progress, play it and win penalty advantage, Fitzgerald chips in behind and Sullivan gets it down inches from dead ball line.

I hadn’t thought much about this captains challenge before tonight but given it changed loss into win tonight and given how many late dubious calls have gone against Connacht historically (Cardiff away in particular) happy to now declare it the greatest innovation in recent decades.
