Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Float was my quirky entry, im going with St Andrews though, probably more deserving.
I was going to nominate it, but then found it's not really used, so wasn't sure it quite counted

I'll vote St Andrews, although it is a close one

    St Andrews.
Not a golfist at all, but as others have mentioned it's the home of golf, world famous, and if you play the game I imagine it is on your bucket list

St. Andrews, you can't get much more iconic than the actual home of a sport.

What, so the stupid thing isn't even used!?

    St Andrews wins.

With that victory, it claims the last spot. We've weeded out a few pretenders now and should be even more competitive from here on out. Will there be any upsets? Might there be a few juicy tie-breakers? Is Genesis Fancy Tenseness gonna stay away? Join us tomorrow for all that and more.

Still open? I'll go with St Andrews as an icon

Criteria for Round 2 is the same as before. 20 mins per match. Just doing the draw, hold tight...

    St. Andrew's

The home of golf, one of the oldest courses in the world.

    Ya I googled. :D

    Fenway Park

St Andrews is lovely I'm sure if you're a golf fan. I'm not though, and I prefer the look of Fenway Park

I’ll go with St. Andrew’s for pretty much the same reasons but in reverse :)

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,338 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Both my nominations, but I'm going for St. Andrews, it's where golf began.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Going to vote logically and go with St Andrew's. I dont follow golf, though I used to watch it, and Im sure this is an important venue so deserves to go a bit further. That fenway park does looks class though but I dont know anything else about it.

    very very tight.....
    Fenway park. iconic american venue.
But St. Andrews . iconic European venue..

Gonna have to give it to Fenway, A stadium where all the crowd focused on the same action tips the balance for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Fenway Park crashes out. Would have definitely received my vote.

    St Andrew's advances.

    The Curragh

Far nicer venue. Plus, the BDO went bust and darts is no longer played at the Lakeside

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    The Curragh
Neither are great to be honest but The Curragh is better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

No real interest in either, but as a sporting venue, the curragh wins my vote. The other place is basically a hotel that hosted the darts afaik.

    The Curragh

Going against the grain here and giving my vote to the Lakeside for no other reason than that it looks like great craic - go with a gang of mates, fancy dress and a heap o' pints

I like darts as much as the next man. . sort of .. . .
But if an 16 time world champion has the physique of Phil Taylor then its not really a sport....
Therefore its not a sporting Venue. . .

The Curragh for me - home to all of Irelands classics in the sport of kings and
Much improved spectator comfort and one of the worlds great natural sporting venues.

The San Siro, because it goes all the way round.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,249 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

This is really tough. Gonna go with Croke Park though. Mainly due to Milan(s) looking to move home recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭ImAHappyCamper

Croke Park....just! I've been to both and what decided it for me was the location. The walk to Croke Park is special whereas the san siro is quite far from the centre of Milan. Also I'm probably a bit biased being Irish!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    San Siro

It's close, but as a kid the San Siro always seemed slightly magical to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

San siro gets my vote. One of my noms and I love the architecture of it. Plus I not much of a gaa fan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,445 ✭✭✭tc20

    San Siro.
When viewed from the roof of the Duomo it is immediately identifiable.
Where else could a major sporting team be both the home, and away side?
Its like Schrodingers football club (if he wasn't Austrian)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

I like the look of the San Siro but will vote Croke Park for its place in history and the Irish psyche

San Siro for me, probably my favorite football stadium.

Croaker just doesn't look right no where near symmetrical enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭BrianBoru00

Ahh the memories of serie A on network 2 - the sexiness of them dutch lads strutting their stuff in the San Siro - what a venue, one of the best and iconic stadiums in the world of football. pity it has to be knocked out here.

    Croke Park.
    hands down.

    The home of the GAA.
the most iconic stadium in Ireland by a mile - still third or fourth biggest by capacity in Europe.
Built BY the people and FOR the people (I'm shedding a tear here).

Some great concert there as well (except for Garth of course)
And who could forget the Special Olympics.
Also holds religious festivals for various creeds.

A stadium that was partially rebuilt using the rubble left as a result of the Easter Rising. . . the death of Michael Hogan and a million other pieces of history stored in the fabric of the place. The fact that one of the stands bears his name - phrases like "i was in the lower Hogan" , or "Swap two Hill tickets for an upper Hogan", the road to Croker....

As a stadium it's fantastic - great view from everywhere (albeit the upper parts need good concentration for the small ball game)
Good facilities, Love the fact you can walk completely around the horse shoe on several different levels during quieter games.
City centre stadium - also a bonus
And if your just a fair weather supporter the premium level is a great spot to meet up with a few mates.....
Better vote now in case I waste too much time spoofing

Also going with my parents here as a child, so many disappointments.....odd good day but so many bad days.

Going with my own children, so many bad days...

Then '96 so many bad days forgotten for the excitement and happiness I saw in my kid's eyes and the excitement I saw in our club for years afterwards.
