Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Think Madonna, Lady gaga and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame played there too since the refurb

Yes, I've been to Madonna and Lady Gaga.
I think these big stadiums suffer from poor sound, they aren't really built for music concerts you need to be close to the stage to avoid echo etc.

Just Googled it there. Some very wild variations on the attendances. 65k for Robbie Williams - didn't think the venue could hold that many - but only 34k for Madonna - was capacity decreased by some elaborate stage set-up? Would have thought she'd still be a huge crowdpuller.

    25 June 2011 Neil Diamond World Tour 2011 50,108

24 July 2012 Madonna The MDNA Tour 33,953
15 September 2012 Lady Gaga The Born This Way Ball 37,005
14 June 2013 Robbie Williams Take the Crown Stadium Tour 65,000

I know Madonna and Gaga weren't sold out. Tickets were very expensive. But you are right that the stages were quite large with catwalks etc.
The Robbie Williams figure sounds very high indeed, I always thought the capacity of Aviva for concerts were around 50k

I went to see them at CP then and they were very good, I know not everyone's cup of tea but each to their own and good to see an Irish act doing well, catchy tunes

Have to go for Monaco here, just for the sheer opulence of the place, and the spectacle.

(I'm imagining the spectacle, have seen the opulence and it's..... opulent!)

Monaco, for the second photo Omack posted. Looks like a fun track

Monaco. It's a cr@p racetrack but the symbol of the golden age of F1. Fast cars, fast women, glamour, shedloads of money, yachts - all things I haven't experienced

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Spa is the much better track, no doubt about it, but Monaco is a classic. And I've driven it :D

    Monaco please

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Monaco has the glamour, but as a pure racing circuit there's nothing to beat Spa. For starters, unlike Monaco you can actually pass there, and it's way, way faster. And for those who like scenic venues, you won't do much better than the Ardennes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,402 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Monaco - I see why you suggested different angled photos, Omackeral. I’m sure I must be missing something at Spa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,445 ✭✭✭tc20

Darn it, missed the afternoon rounds, I thought Henningsvaer might have gone all the way..

Interesting clash but I have to go with Spa.
I've driven on it, I've gone to see races at it, and of the two tracks in this match, it offers much more scope for actual racing & overtaking.
    Monaco is a mere procession.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I like the ones where they're in the same sport - it makes the comparison easier.

Monaco is the best track there is, so it gets the vote.

Much easier than comparing it to a baseball ground or a Russian football ground or an island GAA pitch!

Tough, but I think Melbourne Cricket Ground is a little bit more of a unique entry in this. Loads of soccer grounds entered

MCG is a better looking venue too imo

La Bombonera - Has long been a bucket list item for me whereas MCG hasn’t.

MCG. Looks better and there are better football grounds in the competition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,026 ✭✭✭duffman13

MCG is a class above! Great sporting venue and the atmosphere against the English during some of the winter series do be excellent. Great spot

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

La Bonbonera for the atmosphere, the nickname (Chocolate Box) and the dead end of a stand along one side.

Yeah, there's lots of football grounds, but this is one of the best and shouldn't get knocked out by cricket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,445 ✭✭✭tc20

    La Bombonera.
Never been but its probably the only ground left I'd love to see a match at for the atmosphere.
    And for Diego.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,249 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    MCG doesn't *just* host cricket....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭BrianBoru00

La bombanera . The atmosphere . The stand bouncing. Brilliant.

Though the MCG is pretty iconic. Multi sport arena , loads of history , huge capacity ...

    Both city centre.

But MCG hosts the grand final ...hmm. ... I ve convinced myself to change my mind.

    The MCG . Final answer..

    Acceptable. 1-0 to MCG

    Fair reason here. 1-1

Nice wordplay but not worthy of a full point. Half point only. 1.5-1 to La Bombo

Tenuous enough but just about enough! 2-1.5 to MCG
