I love that kind of thing. Thanks for the recommendation.
Actually, good few on the website https://gaelicfields.com/ :)

There's a lovely GAA pitch in Killybegs too and an impressive onr on Inishturk but i didn't think of nominating them of course! :(
    Maybe someone else did.
    Inishturk is in. :)

I don't know is it the one that was in the ad - was it AIB or something? Anyways, I was googling for that one, found Inishturk, and said it deserves to go in whether it was the one in the ad or not.

    Killibegs too.

And at least one other small-but-scenic GAA ground, but I won't spoil the surprise as to which one :)

Sorry I missed this last night.
2 of my nominations gone already in MSG and Celtic Park.
I nominated MSG for the iconic boxing fights through the years so disappointing about it not getting through round 1.
I nominated Celtic park more for the atmosphere that is there especially on big European nights.
“It is the best atmosphere in Europe and we all want to experience that again.”

These quirky little venues are nice and all but I hope they are weeded out as we get to the business end of this tournament. They are hardly the ultimate venues imo.

I’m loving this discussion of scenic vs iconic. It’s the reason I do these, to see what criteria people use. It’s wonderful seeing the process play out. We will continue this competition later on but I will give some notice beforehand.

Give me the fresh sea air of Norway over the carbon dioxide smothered air of Singapore any day.

Plus football is actually a sport.

Are you trying to say that F1 is not "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

I think I'd rather be smothered by the air than have to stand in the middle of nowhere watching a football match.

& then possibly getting hit in the face by the ball, & knocked onto the rocks & then roll into the icy sea to my death

Aiming to get going again at 4pm or so.

I'd considered it a competitive pastime.

I think that the ones tbat are quirky and different and have character of their own beat large places but it's hard to see them be the "ultimate" venue.

Pasttime? Ha I'd love to see you give it a shot..:D

    Unbelievable stadium

    Estadio Azteca

Not that impressed by either tbh, but there are better NFL stadiums imo

Estadio Azteca, for the atmosphere if nothing else.

I'd considered it a competitive pastime.

The level of fitness that F1 drivers require these days puts it far beyond the realms of pastime.

AT&T Stadium just because of the screens above. I'm presuming they will show the game below & I'll be able to see who's who & what the hell is going on :pac:

Kraanodar for the giant screen that wraps the whole way around the inside of the stadium

And because UCD nearly played there but not in St James' :)

TBH neither will really go far I think.

    Krasnodar Stadium

It's nice & round, the other one looks like someone forgot to finish it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

Krasnodar Stadium, Newcastle's stadium isn't anything special, much better ones in England alone, krasnodars looks impressive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

Quick Google search shows that St James Park from the outside is another of mattress Micks designs.

Krasnodar Stadium looks a bit prettier, so for now I'll vote for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,628 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

St James Park is just your typical old school English stadium. Fair enough if that appeals to you. It was pretty much run down the last time I was there.

So for that reason I'll vote against it. The other one looks amazing

    Krasnodar Stadium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,628 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

I will say though when(if) the full expansion to St James Park is completed, it would probably do better in this comp

    St james' park
So much better looking without the sportsdirect logos all around aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

I think Krasnodar might have the appeal (to my eye anyway) because its a lot newer, being built in 2016. So it has all the flash.

Whereas St James is ancient compared

Newcastle falls at the first hurdle as the Russians progress. Krasnodar Stadium advances

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,340 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Krasnodar Stadium. If St. James' was the same as the stand on the right the whole way round I might think differently.

I'm sure the Moda Center is a fine venue but I do prefer the more outdoorsy type ones in the main.
