Rain seems to be heading towards Galway on the radar but it doesn't feel like it will rain or snow

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Officially Rain here , bummer.
    Temperture not low enough.

It clouded over too early for us. I am expecting wet snow. But no sticking.

Will be watching the stations in Donegal to see if much evaporative cooling takes place.

Where's Nqp15hhu gone. He should be keeping us posted on the front..

Out playing in the snow or jumping in the puddles.

It is 1.2c here, it got down to 0.9c before rising and stabilising. Based on similar past events, I am expecting light rain before wet snow if evaporative cooling takes hold.

I can tell that this is going to go the way of the event a few years ago. Lots of virga and a short spell of snow, then rain.

Could possibly happen, but what tells you this, or is it just a hunch?

There's not much scope for evaporative cooling tonight. It's all or nothing.

Magilligan is also reading 2.1 with a dewpoint of 0.2. Cloud 7-okta at 10,000 ft, 2-okta at 3600 ft.

-4c out now and it definitely feels like the coldest evening so far this winter.
    Looking forward to later.

If they start slowly rising, it’s game over for me and most people below 100 metres.

In general the ECM showing more snow accumulations than the other models I would reckon especially in Northern counties and N Midlands.

ICON a bit lighter and further W, most of the models looking like the ECM and WRF with best chance of some lying snow but as has been mentioned very light for many with merely a dusting with some areas maybe getting 2 to 3cm more so on higher elevation like hills

Temps look quite low in the Eastern half of the country tomorrow morning so any snow that fell should last some time. Plenty of slipping and sliding tomorrow on the roads and footpaths.

Why not? Some of the models show rain turning to snow about 11pm.

There is not much wind also.

Because I think it will start as rain. I have had these sorts of events before and it always starts as rain before turning to wet snow. Even if it’s cold.

It's slow progress but a bit more momentum.

This will be all snow in the midlands and east falling on frozen surfaces so i'm 100% sure there will be a least a dusting here by the morning.

Yeah it’s a pity that cloud came in ahead of it. Most of us would’ve seen snow. Now I’m not convinced.

If warm advection doesn’t occur that could change.

Most of that appears to be in the highlands. Such a waste of perfectly good snow! :pac:

Most will see snow. Those near northwest, west and north coasts will not because not only is there a marine layer there but the temperatures are not quite low enough anyway in the layer just above that.

    Very narrow margins.

This app gives me a 60% chance of snow. http://www.sciencebits.com/SnowProbCalc?calc=yes

I still think it could start out as light rain.

All three Donegal stations down 0.2c

HIRLAM prep forecast (doesn't show type) for the overnight and tomorrow period:

    https://i.imgur.com/7qv8c2X.mp4

Any rain that falls here will very likely freeze on impact from that front.Nightmare scenario for overnight and early morning commuters.
