Still waiting for 2 parcels to Germany sent first week in December to arrive.

I received a parcel from Germany today. Ordered on the 19th of this month, despatched on the 20th. Delivered by An Post at 8:30am (26th).
However there are 2 other parcels outstanding that were posted from Germany before Christmas.
Looks like current mailings are moving again, but we'll still have to wait for them to deal with the backlog.

    THEY ARRIVED!

My parents and my brother sent my Christmas gifts to me in Germany (I didn't go home this year) on December 7th. Most recent update is the 10th December. One is in Portlaoise, one in London Heathrow.

Neither have arrived yet, and An Post on Twitter have been the exact opposite of helpful trying to recover them or send them on their way.

    ONE HAS ARRIVED!

The secondis still in Dublin but hopefully it'll be on its way soon

Sent a tracked letter to Mexico on January 6, sorted in Athlone on the 7th. Hadn’t budged since

Hi, I posted a birthday present to my brother in Turkey on 13th January. The last update was the 14th January saying it has left Portlaois Mail Centre. Nothing after that. I have checked on the international carriers website and it isn’t showing on that at all so does that mean it is still in Ireland and hasn’t left nearly 4 weeks later. I understand there is delays but the lady in the post office actually said the delays are easing now and it should take 7-10 days. It was a real personal present and I’d hate to think it’s lost

Two small parcels posted 15 Dec - one to Latvia, one to Poland. Tracker shows nothing after leaving Ireland the following day. Have not absolutely given up hope, hearing about the German ones.

I sold a phone on ebay and posted it with tracking on 8th Jan.
Its still stuck in Dublin Mail Centre.
I posted a return to Reebok on the same date. It left, went to the UK, onto Germany and has been delivered.
I have bought small packages from China since the 8th Jan which have been delivered.

Buyer filed a non receipt of item and got a refund.
An post cant retrieve my parcel without a Garda warrant.

    Nightmare.

There's an option to set Dispatch time time on eBay listings - I had to change mine to the maximum of 30 Business Days. This way eBay won't/shouldn't let a buyer open an 'item not received case' too soon.

I almost had to give a €330 refund for an item I sold taking 6 weeks to get to The Netherlands :( Thank feck the buyer was incredibly patient and understanding, but I've had a couple of see-yous demand a refund probably in the know they'd get BOTH the refund and the item. Track and insure anything and everything of value!

Oh - I submitted an online missing post claim and got a letter back IN THE POST to say they were going to investigate

    It is what it's.

Pair of football socks took from the 10th of December to the end of January to reach Cologne from Ireland.

Does that definitely work? I thought it was based on the estimated delivery date from the actual dispatch date.

I wouldn't send anything of that value abroad through the post. DPD or UPS are much better options.

Track and insured doesn’t always work. I sent a parcel I sold on eBay to the uk in February last year, so before covid. I paid extra to make sure it covered the full cost, 120 Euro. When I put a claim in at first I got a letter back saying they can’t compensate anything sent via standard post, even though it was tracked and insured and they gave me a book of stamps. It took them about 4 or 5 months to send this back. I stupidly thought I’d filled the online form in wrong so I did I again. In November I got the same template letter back with a book of stamps. I tried to contact them and got no where so have given up now and I’ve lost 120 euro, well 120 euro minus two books stamps.

For EU countries, the only viable option is DPD, GLS, Ups ground, FedEx ground, DHL ground.

All of these use ferries and road and there are no restrictions and no delays.

Ireland to Netherlands with DPD is 3-4 days, tracked and signed.

Until flights are back to normal, forget an post for international packages. It WILL take weeks.

Waiting 7 weeks now for a Christmas parcel to arrive into Mexico. Tracking number shows nothing after they accepted It from me, no response to my many emails.

Absolute joke. Use any alternative service in future guys!!

Sent a package to a friend in Romania, it left the An Post handling centre in Heathrow 3rd of February, still no update.

Romanian post don't have it yet either.

Quoted 3-5 day delivery, and now told 16-21 work days before I can even file a complaint.

Ive had serious delays with AnPost since November, I ship regularly and globally and Ive found that Canada, France and the Netherlands is by far the worst to ship to. Ive items sent in November that still havent reached their destination (Both tracked and standard) I currently have 11 cases open with AnPost. It takes about 4 months normally to get a result and by then Ive already refunded the buyer and the items have arrived so I get nothing back. Its a shocking postal service. Majority of the tracked cases are either stuck in Dublin or just dont exist on the shipping network. On a side note Ive stopped shipping to Canada and France due to the amount of missing items. Its up there with South America for disappearing shipmments.

I think there is multiple reasons for valid delays

    1) Most countries are on lockdown and amount of post is higher than they can handle

    2) Brexit/customs is causing backlogs separate to an post with possibly a month delay. Some customs happens in an post sorting centres

    3) Lack of flights for international shipments, so they go by road instead through multiple countries.

    4) Tracking updates needs a physical person to scan the package for an update and that might not happen due to backlog. On some international routes the package may not be scanned at all from first scan at departing country until scanned after delays and customs in destination country.

A week within Ireland for packages is common at the moment.
A month from UK is common
Even longer for international road is common with no tracking updates.

Even DHL cheap from Germany goes by road via UK with no tracking updates until processed in Ireland. Many courier companies hand over to an post for final delivery on the cheaper items. If your customs paperwork is not 100% complete you enter a whole new backlogged system.

An post have hired or bought extra vans to try handle the extra package shipments, they are delivering in Saturdays and Sundays and they are doing what they can. We can't assume we are living in normal times. An post had slow delivery times before the pandemic.

It's best to ignore An Post's quoted delivery times. They are completely inaccurate. It says 5-7 days to Australia on the An Post site!

Even before covid the estimates were too low.

Seems so, I sent a package with FedEX International Priority, and it left Friday, arrived in Singapore Saturday; but still there.

Quoted delivery was today to Australia; doubt it'll happen.

    Compare the price!

FedEx have their own cargo planes. They don't use passenger planes. So once airports are open, they should not have delays. That's the service they offer and charge accordingly.

Standard national postal systems worldwide use passenger flights to move post. An item can show that it has left, but in reality it has just been put in the waiting area until space is available.

And it's not just post. I need to bring a small shipment from China of about 150kg. In 2019 it took 6 days and cost less than €500 for a near identical shipment

I've been told that it will be three weeks before there's any cargo space and the cost will be almost €1800!!!

It is what it is. Expect weeks of delays unless you pay the FedEx/ups premium rates

Sent package to Greece on December 18th. Stuck in Heathrow apparently. No timeframe for resolution. It's tracked and insured, I've asked An Post what's the timeframe for considering a package lost in order to claim compensation but I've not received any response. I've no issue waiting if An Post could provide some information, but they can't/won't.

For the sake of comparison: received this morning in France a Christmas present from my mother - posted (and postmarked) in Dublin on 2nd December! Funny thing is she posted two on the same day (keeping the weight under 2kg); the other one arrived on the 28th Dec.

From all the reports on here, I'm convinced it's 98% an An Post problem - my deliveries from within France and other European countries are arriving as expected.

I had a delivery today that left Westport co. Mayo at 4.30 yesterday.

How on earth can you compare an internal delivery with an international delivery that involves an air service. Internally in close European countries they will truck mail to the next country.

I think there are more side effects of covid than people think.

Well I paid through the nose, including their fuel surcharge, and no delivery that was no later than 16th Feb is now Estimated earliest 23rd Feb.

    Delays all over the place.

I would ship alot to France in the last few years but almost all items I shipped to France since late December have still not arrived. We are talking about 15/20 items since December 1st (Tracked ones I am still waiting for An Post to get back to me and the status is currently "Arrived in France"). If there has ever been an issue shipping anywhere it usually arrives back to me but nothing. Ive since stopped shipping to France.

Ive found over the last few years (outside of the usual cowboy countries) that France, Netherlands, Italy and Canada are by far the worst for delays and missing post.

Use ups standard or DPD. Both use sea/road and delivery to Germany is 3-4 days.

Posted a small packet to address in England recently, took about 10 mins paperwork in local PO. Postmaster says it'll be mayhem next Christmas with long waiting queues. An Post have no campaign to advise the public of this new regime. However you can avoid to some extent by buying a postage label online. You still have to fill in the details and have a printer but.. best of a bad lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,250 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

I know this is older post , but just an FYI that you don't need to print the label, you can get the post office to scan the barcode on the email from your phone.

I sell stuff online and An Post somehow don't currently have support for label printers, so I end up parsing the barcodes out of the email and printing them onto the package and they just scan and print it again in the post office. They are actually delighted in the post office as they don't need to do anything manually.

UK isn't the only place with this pre-customs form too, USA was the first place to bring it in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,817 ✭✭✭Darc19

You should check the ecommerce hub if you are doing any decent volume. Even a small amount of 30-40 a week will entitle you to an account.

Once that's set-up, you can print labels on any type of printer including a standard 6"x4" thermal label printer.

Its also easy to get A4 sheets of labels with 2/4 labels on them. Simply re-size the print settings. I use a4 sheets with 2 labels for some personal packages I send to the USA and Turkey. I simply turn the page around to print the next label

How long does it take a parcel to get to UK normally, posted a week ago today, no sign of it yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 Celtic_Eagle

I posted an item on Sept 20th from Dublin to Germany. I registered the item and it cost €27.50. There was zero update on the tracking website until yesterday when it said it had only arrived in the mail centre in Dublin 12!!! 2 weeks to move from one part of Dublin to another....

I then rang the customer service number and waited 40 mins to speak to someone who simply said fill in a M58 form online which deals with delays.

It is a mess at the moment and very disappointing from the national postal provider

I posted an international envelope / letter yesterday morning. I asked for express shipping with tracking. However, it's been more than 24 hours now and the status is still "Your post was accepted in (insert post office details)".

I was told it would take two days to arrive with express shipping, but a full day later, the letter is still at the same stage it was at yesterday when I first posted it.

    Is this normal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,557 ✭✭✭✭blade1

1-3 days for Europe express and 5 for rest of world.

It's possible it won't show up on tracking until scanned on otherside by whoever delivers there.

The status was updated to "left An Post" on 07/04. No further update since.

They sell the express shipping as a two day service, but it took more than two days for the letter to leave An Post (unless there's a gap between the process and the system updates).

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭TheGlossy

The status still has not moved from the last status "left An Post" on 07/04. Is it normal for it to take this long? I tried using the tracking number on the recipient's local post website and it's not recognizing it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭TheGlossy

Did the item eventually reach the buyer?

    I'm having the same issue.

I sent an international envelope on 05/04 and the last update is 07/04 "Your post has left An Post - DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE". No further update since. I wonder if it's normal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,512 ✭✭✭VG31

Where is it going? I find An Post's stated international timeframes to be underestimates in most cases.
