Fact remains that controls do work on reducing the transmission of a virus.
Yet here we are, a full year later and despite living under restrictions for 12 months now, still we are being told that the virus is out of control and that we need to do more.

What are they going to be telling us in another 12 months?

To answer the question from post #1 in the thread, it will all end when waiting lists fall.

The waiting lists will never fall, not with all the other undiagnosed illnesses currently being swept under the carpet, they are still bubbling away there ready to join those lists when needed.

I didn't say they weren't. I just said Covid was worse.

Genuinely don't think it is any worse, in fact I would prefer it to a virulent flu as flu kills kids and younger people in a virulent form. Covid has been and remains a risk for the elderly and frail in any substantial way.

Problems you're talking about have existed for decades. Why haven't you held them accountable before now.

    Incorrect.

Problems I am talking about have been getting worse since 2014. Using "pandemic" term that resulted in less people dying in 2020 than in 2019 in this country as a reason for not doing anything about the problem for the next few months, years is extremely lazy, unaccountable and just foolish.

If this pandemic is as deadly as serious as you suggest then I have to wonder why is there such lack of urgency about improving our healthcare system, now. not in 2027.

You want me to backup with scientific experimentation that some countries implemented curfews or that people in this thread wanted to copy other countries approach. Is that your question?

It’s quite simple really . You made this statement
“If people want the same restrictions as somewhere else then they must those worse restrictions. Like a curfew.”

Please back up this statement with past scientific experimentation to prove its validity.

I would just like to point out something that isnt talked enough about.

Every lockdown decision made has never called out any numbers specifically. Its always been "too high" "very concerning" rubbish.

How can you possibly support the "laws" and "the govt" when decisions that affect 4.9 million people are done without any specific exit strategy? This is bizarre. Its tin foil hat stuff to be nodding your head "yeah we are saving granny" while govt puts thousands of SME's out of business by entering lockdowns without any specific "we are going to go to level 4 or 3 when there are less than 1000 daily cases for 7 consecutive days" as an example.

I am ashamed of just how stupid people have been about this point. Shrugging shoulders is just not good enough anymore. Absolutely disgraceful.

Pound shops never shut. Even in April 2020.

Is this op actually suggesting a curfew on pound shops and chippers etc ?
If he is suggesting that he’s off his nut

I see. Well this thread itself is case study. People have said why don't we do the same as France. Well Paris has a curfew. So wanting to copy France is wanting a curfew.

It doesn't get overloaded the same way. Are people still saying this is the same as flu? Wow.

When you say "... address this..." I assume you mean the annual overcrowding and lack of capacity.

Well they can do little in a pandemic. But take the new children's hospital. It's 2 billion and rising with no extra beds. That's what they are doing....

I haven't said it's the same as flu. They've had 12 months to come up with a plan to deal with the pandemic and address long-standing capacity issues, they've done **** all on both counts. Not to mention their abysmal performance in testing and contact tracing. We'll all die of old age before the HSE's problems are solved, I'm not sacrificing my life for a bunch of incompetent clowns.

Covid-19 in Ireland: Lockdown rules must stay until waiting lists fall, says Nphet

To answer the question from post #1 in the thread, it will all end when waiting lists fall.

Right. So level 5 forever then? NPHET can take a run and jump.

You seem to be missing the point.

Why would we care whether there is a curfew or not, we're already not allowed to do anything!

We are averaging 700-800 cases a day, and people are surprised and angry that we are NOT re-opening anytime soon?

Sure, lets just reopen for the craic and see what happens. It is not like we have tried it 3 times now.

Im so glad, the people here are just posting online and are not running the country.

    ...

The restrictions were mostly lifted at times during the year, summer and Xmas so it's not 12 months. People were able to go on holiday and do their Xmas shopping, have meal out, socialise at home and out.

How long have we been in Level 5. Six weeks?

    Not much exaggeration there then...

Its being inferred it's no different to the annual crisis. Which makes no sense.

If they've done nothing. Then why are you complaining about a lockdown if it doesn't exist.

This is the sort of bull**** people have to put up with. I have had core civil liberties removed, things that throughout human history would have been considered unalienable rights, and yet here we have some guy smugly telling me I should be grateful that I can still go on the internet.

I haven't had a life for a full year and some guy is telling me that actually it didn't happen, because for a few weeks last year I could have eaten some food in a heavily restricted former restaurant.

Whats next? We have closed all shops and you can't get food any more, but you can still get water from the tap so what are you complaining about...

I say one thing, this whole thing has really opened my eyes as to the mentality of the Irish people, I never quite realised how petty and sycophantic so many of them can be, it seems there is no level of incompetence that will not be accepted or even defended to the hilt.

How long we have been in it is not relevant. How long we WILL be in it is relevant and the future doesn’t look good right now.

Holland. 9pm curfew until the next morning. Allowed to travel to anywhere within the country beaches etc etc.

Ireland. 24 hrs not allowed further than 5 k.

Like I said earlier people are gullible enough to think this is great, we don’t have a curfew because it isn’t actually called a curfew, just a distance restriction.

Since October 2020 bar 2 or 3 weeks over Christmas, let that sink in. Heading for 6 month's now.

Cases mean nothing because everybody I no that has tested positive had no symptoms and have done there isolation for 2 weeks. Nobody I no took the mick they done there part and what was required and they're family got tested, contact trace etc. How does somebody in the same house test positive and the others negative even after getting tested twice? So how is it spreading?
The cure is absolutely worse than the disease now.
People are forgetting why we have a constitution, it's created to stop governments from having this kind of abusive power which, history will show is very difficult to get back.

That's a bit like saying saying we've Xmas all year around now with the exception of the 10 months in the middle.
