I agree with the BBC article. I think mask wearing and social distancing

Not a chance will SD be around for years. When I’m vaccinated and the critical mass are vaccinated i won’t be practicing SD and i’m quite sure i won’t be alone.

People are already use to mask wearing and distance measures so it won't make any difference to them.

    A deluded statement.

Your choice if you want to break the law.

Wearing a mask and having the curteousy to maintain distance from others while shopping or whatever is not much to ask for most people.

Presently yes, but in a vaccinated world not a chance. Who cares about people when shopping? People usually keep to themselves from strangers when shopping even pre covid. If you think people won’t socialise, meet new friends and form relationships for years it’s delusion.

Even if there were no vaccines, at a certain point we would still have to start looking at getting back to normal.

I haven't seen people giving each other distance at the supermarkets for many months now.

And to be honest, I can't see standing close to someone for a few seconds, or walking past someone and not being 2m away as much of an issue. I would really doubt that Covid spreads in situations like that.

You see part of your problem is you don't read the posts.

Where did I say anything about not socialising or meeting friends?

You are seeing things not being said. You're not the only one doing that to be fair.

This is all in your head.

The reality is, in my view, that the low level stuff like mask wearing and distancing are here to stay for a long while yet. You can be in denial all you like. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

I would say this to you though - aside from risking fines or getting thrown out of an establishment you'd want to be pretty careful with the attitude that you intend to just ignore people.

You might end up ignoring and breathing down the neck of the wrong person while in that queue.

I think mask wearing and social distancing are here for quite a time to come and I've been 100% consistent since the start on the long term nature of those types of relatively minor disease suppression issues.
There is nothing "minor" about these most abhorrent diktats and overt assaults on our personal sovereignty. This totalitarianism is Treasonous, pure and simple.

Is that your expert opinion? How do you triage patients who need to be isolated when there are no beds in the hospital?

Let the overpaid clowns like Paul Reid in the HSE worry about that. I'm not on 450k a year to manage the health service.

Not my experience in Dublin. It's very well adhered to.

OK, so I do see some stand back and let others pass. I do that myself often, but all the local supermarkets gave up limiting numbers long ago, and it more or less as packed as they were pre-Covid. Car park full every Friday and Saturday as usual.
So once you have big numbers of people inside a supermarket, it is hard to SD all the time.

Supermarkets in my area are slightly more packed than they were before Covid-19. I think it is displacement activity due to other things being shut down.

What a moronic post, threats of violence thrown in, eh? No you’re twisting it now. Didn’t you already say pubs etc will never re open again? More tosh. BTW i have never seen anyone breathe down anyone’s neck in the shops even pre covid. It’s all in your mind.

So , we either keep our distance from people or we don’t. If we do the former like you ‘think’ will happen how do people meet new friends or develop romantic relationships with SD?

I'm not even talking about restricting numbers in shops. Distancing can be maintained in most stores without that measure. Queue lines are the biggest pinch point in stores. Distancing just means spread out the 1.5 or 2 meters.

When this ends will the politicians of the world apologise for the inconvenience their incompetence has caused? I could bet my house they won't be they'll all be blowing their own trumpets about how they saved the world from this so so called "deadly pandemic".

Look, I'm just going leave it there. You come across quite aggressive here for no reason whatsoever. And I'm genuinely confused as to why you are going on about things I haven't said.

You can disagree with people without resorting to that attitude.

    Good night.

Not at all, that’s in your mind also. I wasn’t the one who said “ you’ll breathe down the wrong neck sometime” now that sounds aggressive.

Where did you get your tinfoil hat, you alt right conspiracy nutbag?

Oh, we’ve moved the goalpost again? Let me rephrase:

Of course we should continue wearing masks and social distancing! Look how much better we did with the flu - why wouldn’t we? What, is putting on a mask too hard for you, baby?

So do you think we should require masks and social distancing for the regular flu? Not just COVID? For how long? Is this a permanent thing now, that we all just have to adapt to? The argument for wearing masks was that COVID spreads much faster then the regular flu (not arguing with that, no issues wearing them for covid).

Why would we need to wear them once everyone is vaccinated?

It was a bad joke. I agree with you.

My point is that people who once considered "ongoing restrictions even after this is over" as a conspiracy theory will very quickly update their firmware if these measures (social distancing and masks) end up becoming something like a permanent fixture. Not saying they will, but it certainly doesn't feel out of the realm of possibility.

Ah it's doesn't matter what the pair of you think, once the media are claiming it's necessary people will believe it should be the law and anyone not partaking is selfish and should he arrested or have a date with the firing squad.

Be interesting to see how far people would be willing to go with it. The frog in the gradually boiling water comes to mind.

Ha ha ha. I wouldn’t worry about it. Sure, the advice about masks and hand washing etc will be the norm but it won’t be made illegal to mix with people or will businesses be shut down because of the flu.

And when the next pandemic appear, we can take the next logical step and make spacesuits mandatory.

Chin up people. Results from the Astra Zeneca trials in the USA are out. They have found 79% efficacy and 100% against serious illness.
