Strict restrictions have been re-introduced in Belgium on foot of the rise in numbers due to UK variant.

The "strict restrictions" includes unlimited travel within the country.
Families and friends can meet outdoors.
    Restaurants are still open
    Shops are still open

It would make you laugh at what's happening here in Ireland, and has happened since 26 December. Utterly depressing considering we are now 4 months into UK variant and our numbers are far far smaller.

There's a whole new different virus circulating in Ireland though... Stupidity.

Yeah, I'm a covid nerd. So what?
I know the data and I know what I'm talking about.

If you've like to have a conversation with someone that's misinformed, be my guest. There's plenty around.

Thing is, you only think you know. That is what you get when you look at world with covid glasses on.

Once again, Ireland's vaccine supply has been revised downwards, Minister Donnolly told the Dail that supply for April would be slightly under a million doses, when questioned further the figure became 860,000. Thats including the j+j supply, at this rate we will be going back to give the very elderly a booster shot before we are fully vaccinated.

And that is what I call scam. We will never be "fully vaccinated" as a lot of people will not bother taking a "vaccine" which offer you some hypothetical reduction of severity mainly if it will require "booster" every year or tweaking for different strains.
This will end up the same way as flu vaccines. People who got scared from what media bombarded them with will line up for their vaccine and then boosters and every year there will be less and less of them.

Who would want to take AZ vaccine given that they were caught submitting outdated data from their vaccine trials to look better than they actually are.
Like 63-67% efficiency in reducing symptoms isn't any particular lifesaving measure worth to talk about. It is quite close to 50:50 situation...

This was mentioned yesterday on leaders questions. We're still on track to meet the two million in April and May, with April being 860k and May being just short of 1.2 million.

I'll tell you one thing, I wish I had been vaccinated before I got the dose I did at Christmas. Tested positive early January and I've never been as rattled in my life, I was hospitalised and am still short of breath, get dizzy and have circulatory issues because of long Covid. I don't know what planet or conspiracy loop you've found yourself in but you've clearly been misled. I'm 29 by the way, fit as fiddle with no underlying so I'm thankful I got it young anyway but getting this vaccine should be everyone's number one priority, if not for yourself then the people around you.

All this turning your nose up to clear as day science in favour of complete misinformation is madness. It's our modern day Copernicus story, you'll be telling me the earth doesn't revolve around the sun next.

You'd wonder why these tests haven't been used before now.....we'll be vaccinated by then...or some of us anyway.

Will we see common theraputics sometime in the near future too...wouldn't surprise me in the slightest..after the population has been vaccinated.

Will we see a drive to improve Vit D...probably after we are all vaccinated.

I'd pay a €5 for a test myself if I was allowed in venues if I felt it was worth it...would you?

Turn off Fake News RTE already. Florida hasn't had a lockdown since last year. No masks, social distancing or anything.
Karate why do you keep telling this lie? You've been corrected on it several times so you do know it's a lie. And in the very same post as you're telling lies, you're calling RTE fake news. The irony!

Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Tallahasse, all still require masks. The only one of the top 5 metropolitan areas in Florida that does not require a mask is Jacksonville and that's only since Monday. Many businesses in Jacksonville and the schools system there still requiring marks.

Exactly! Why should we be in a stricter lockdown for a much longer time than Belgium if our numbers in hospital and ICU are far lower??

    Priceless!!

Also, while venues have permission to open at full capacity, only the superbowl had more than 10% capacity, at 22000. Wrestlemania is aiming for 25-30k.

    But yeah, no restrictions.

I know this is in the UK, but looks like they are planning for these lockdowns to be around for a very long time. There is no real plan to end these things.

Where are you getting lockdowns from this, this is the opposite really. They're looking to increase asymptomatic testing capacity which is only a good thing. This is how you avoid lockdowns altogether and with the vaccine rolling out, we'll be seeing mainly asymptomatic so this is probably for monitoring purposes more than anything?

If anything this speaks to their confidence in the vaccine.

This forum is full of loopers who think governments and scientists want the lockdowns to last forever for some unknown reason. It’s completely ridiculous but I read it here a lot. I suspect the person you’re responding to probably holds similar opinions but I could be wrong.

The Govt gave the judges a pay rise [ https://www.thejournal.ie/cabinet-increase-pay-judges-whips-allowances-5292378-Dec2020/] so essentially they bribed the courts.Plus having no opposition in the Dail. And a media that's nothing more than propagandists.

This definitely looks like this can go on forever. No opposition, the Courts and Media in their back pockets. Definitely not looking good for the people of this Country.

It's not really surprising a lot of people think that:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-56475807

"Dr Ramsay said restrictions such as face coverings in crowded places and social distancing had become accepted by many and still allowed the economy to function.

She said "people have got used to those lower-level restrictions now, and people can live with them, and the economy can still go on with those less severe restrictions in place".

"So I think certainly for a few years, at least until other parts of the world are as well vaccinated as we are, and the numbers have come down everywhere, that is when we may be able to go very gradually back to a more normal situation," she added."

    https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/21/politics/anthony-fauci-mask-wearing-2022-cnntv/index.html

"Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that it's "possible" Americans will still need to wear masks in 2022 to protect against the coronavirus, even as the US may reach "a significant degree of normality" by the end of this year."

    https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/massive-events-large-weddings-wont-19788856

"Massive events like Cheltenham Festival could not happen for "years", according to a COVID-19 expert.

Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London, has warned that massive events won't come back anytime soon despite coronavirus vaccinations."

    https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus/covid-restrictions-will-return-in-autumn-and-last-into-2022-after-respite-in-summer-warns-chief-medical-officer-mcbride-40070956.html

"Covid-19 restrictions are likely to remain in place this time next year, Northern Ireland’s top doctor has warned.

Dr Michael McBride, the chief medical officer, has said while restrictions will not be fully lifted until 2022, he hopes this summer will bring some respite from the current lockdown.

However, he said it is likely that a range of restrictions will return in the autumn and remain in place into 2022."

Do you not think Mike Ryan is basing this off understanding and education as an epidemiologist, along with access to thousands of other experts across the globe. What's your point bringing this up, do you think he has another motive?

The point is that if it's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation vaccines then the other poster is right to be concerned that there's no end in sight.

As this thread moves towards it's 10k limit I wanted to advise everyone there will not be a follow up thread. This thread has moved away from its original topic and has become very similar in nature to the Relaxation of Restrictions thread. Indeed it seems to have become a home to many posters who find themselves banned from that thread

Of course posters can still appeal their threadbans by approaching the banning mod via PM

The thread will be closed later this evening, so you have a final opportunity to conclude any outstanding discussions

Any questions please PM me. Do not respond to this post in-thread

Looking at Israel and how successful there reopenings have been it is encouraging. We will be watching our neighbours over in the UK and seeing how they do with the reopenings region by region

Regarding here there might come a time when we will be forced to reopen and live alongside this virus like we do with many others, successful UK reopenings could put massive pressure on our Government. A nervy thing is the problems in the HSE and that could be a factor.

I don't think covid will end but think it will join the flu and other illnesses that cant be eliminated
