It seems that this video and this presentation has gotten the attention of all senators from reporters in the chamber. And it’s hard not to be shocked by it.

Cowards still won’t vote to convict.

That police officer that lead the rioters away from the senate chamber. He’s shown turning senator mitt Romney around and going the opposite way from where the rioters.

If they had caught Romney there is a good chance he would be dead today.

It seems officer eugene Goodman at the capitol. That guy is an utter legend. I know that it’s proposed he gets a confessional award and I hope no one votes against it.

Well they didn’t seem to care who they got. I’m sure we won’t hear about it but I hope senator Romney gets the chance to thank him personally. You can disagree on many things with mitt Romney but when push comes to shove he seems be a decent guy.

Needs to be given the medal of freedom?
Not racists and trump boot lickers.

It's putting the threat to assassinate Mike Pence, in the face of the GOP Senators. Let them vote that down by acquitting Trump.
    Superb prosecuting line.

If things had gone a little differently and some of the politicians had been caught by the mob, exactly how many of them would have to be ripped limb from limb on camera before the GOP would be honest jurors in this trial?

A wrong turn by a politician running to sanctuary could easily have turned very ugly very quickly. And it wouldn't have mattered which party they were with, because the lynch-mob would have attacked anyone they could have got their hands on.

The dishonesty from the GOP is extraordinary. Just denying the danger they were put in themselves is crazy. Denying it is not going to stop it from happening again.

Haha Ted Cruz. The ****ehawks are on video saying Cruz is with us. Great.

It's such a sad indictment of the state of US bipartisan politics that the GOPs will almost all close their eyes to the truth, and instead vote based on what they're told and expected to do.

I mean, we all know politics is a dirty game, and almost all involved are morally questionable at best... But voting against a conviction and for Trump's acquittal feels like the most raw, visceral demonstration of dirty, shameless, selfish politics.

From this presentation and footage, the rioters were a lot closer and there was an awful lot of luck involved for the members of Congress and some of the audio from the officers is rough.

Proper mic drop finish to Swalwell's presentation there.
The GOP need to look at themselves and if they vote to acquit?
They need to realise that they are the biggest danger to the US Republic.

There can be no equivocation IMO, barring some sort of schism this needs to be line in the sand that leads to a deescalation of the Trumpist/Nationalism rhetoric or they live with the consequence.

If they acquit Trump it will show the contempt the hold Pence with some party loyalty that America is one sad country

In fairness you can understand why former Vice President Mike pence was unhappy with trump because of what happened. I mean even taking into account that the secret service detail of a VP seem to be an ask questions later crowd, his family came very very close to the rioters. The 59 steps was a stark way to put the distance. Id say a players going up the hogan stand would take nearly as many steps on all Ireland final final day. That’s not a long trek.

It looked even closer for Chuck Schumer than 59 steps, his security detail marched him up a ramp and through a doorway, they saw the mob and did a compete 180 to get him out of there.

I think the 59 steps was the video of the senators in that hallway and not Schumer. Yeah his security detail did an old cruyff turn at the top of the ramp.

Just saw the Schumer video again and if you look closely at the first member of his security detail you can see he has his weapon drawn and ready, it looks like some sort of semi automatic machine gun

That was a very impressive performance. Given that, unlike trump, Congress-people possibly don't watch too much tv, and anyway much of that video was new, it must have been a strange feeling to be forced to sit through the whole, detailed, time-lined presentation. Goodness knows what the other side are going to do for 8 hours. They could probably put their case in 20 minutes. None of that happened, it was all fake news and Trump wasn't even there. And he was robbed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,817 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

So Fox News is in full spin mode. Tucker Carlson literally said that the presentation that the house managers gave today was different from the official story(had no idea there was an official story yet) and that they are lying. I’d love to know how actual Capitol Hill security camera footage can be seen as lies. There’s no audio so it’s just video. Also, Lindsay graham is proclaiming that the dems case is falling apart and the trail will be over by Sunday. This crowd are doing a wizard of OZ and the man behind the curtain routine.

What with being on the run from the insurrectionist mob, the senators from both sides couldn't have known [mostly] what was happening on the day itself and probably since then reliant on the media to find out. The encompassing video used so far as evidence must have rattled a few nerves yesterday in the senators and congresspersons [and probably the V/P] along with their families when they learned how close they came to falling into the hands of the mob. Pressure has to be building on the GOP senators from family, relatives, friends and voters to call Tump to account for his call to insurrection.

Senator Lee calling for it to be stricken from the senate trial evidence record that he heard what Trump said to Tuberville on his own phone does show how some of the GOP senators are scared of Trump's reach from beyond the White House.

I watched until the dinner break last night, but I can't figure out (none of the news stations are very good at doing sequential information) what happened after that. Was there any more evidence before the Lee phone call disruption?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,609 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

They voted to recess around the time of the phonecall evidence hoohah until [I think] mid-day today when the prosecution team managers finish up with approx 2 hours of evidence. Most of the TV item was about the two senators from both parties and V/P Pence & family being escorted to safety, stressing how the senators came close to being caught in the corridors by the mob, except for prompt action by the cops who knew the best escape routes to use.

CNN is reporting that Officer Sicknick may have died from an allergic reaction to a [bear or similar] spray used by the insurrectionists and not from a physical injury caused by a fire extinguisher being used as a weapon to strike him. The end result is the same, he lost his life to the insurrectionists obeying the call of Trump while president.

Lindsay Graham is a traitor. It's that simple. A traitor to the institutions that he's sworn an oath to protect. US politics is in serious trouble, and may never recover.

The only way the GOP would possibly change is if the insurrectionists got their hands on Pence or another Republican and did them severe injury or death.

If a Democrat was attacked I think the GOP would still be voting the same position they are currently voting.

Do you really think that that would get the likes of Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham to change their vote?

Don't say it lightly but maybe the mob actually coming upon Pence and what resulted would have shaken the Republicans and Americans in general up enough to get tough on the traitors in their ranks.

There are a few problems with that.

Many people still really believe that the election was stolen, and therefore the traitors are actually patriots.

Pence, in that line of thinking, was turning not just on Trump, but on the US as a whole by failing to stand up for democracy and the US.

Sure things got a bit rough, but it wasn't too bad and nothing like the BLM protests and even if people died that was mostly on them and sometimes freedom has a price.

And they have the final bit that the people who stormed the capital were just nut jobs and had nothing to do with Trump or the GOP. They just jumped on a bandwagon. But if they are supporters, then is it any wonder they did what they did when the country was under attack from the left wing PC brigade trying to steal the election.

That is the thinking that allows them to convince themselves they were actually on the right side of this.

Personally I think the house managers should turn to the Republican senators and say
'Pence did his constitution obligations and refused to do Trump's bidding so Trump sent the mob after him to seek retribution, what will happen to you if you refuse to bend to Trump's will?'

Republicans should be warned of the consequences of allowing trumps failed insurrection go unpunished, the result of which will be to embolden them, and trump, and it will be the republican parties responsibility for further trump related domestic terror incidents.
