Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking at it again you do wonder how that’s not offside. Miles offside and he came back from behind Mings to steal the ball off him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

So that should have been disallowed. I thought VAR was meant to check these kind of things instead of drawing coloured lines all over the place

    Peno for city now

Game over city top of the league

No arguments over the peno alright but that first goal blows my mind. I don't see in any way how it wasn't ruled out.

How does VAR not even check that, it is obviously offside. No wonder Dean Smith was livid.

Moss is such a terrible ref.

Pep is such a cool custumer he knows when to stay calm and his team stays calm and reaps the rewards, none of that lose cannon stuff on the sideline feeding back into the team on the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,933 ✭✭✭Tippex

How on earth is that goal allowed to stand?

Shocking decision but also weird replays from BT on it it wasn’t until a good few minutes later they showed how far offside Rodri was.

You'd be fairly sick if you are a Villa fan tonight.

VAR is corrupt, a 5 year old who doesn't even know what a football is would have given that offside, and would not have given a penalty for that handball. Those handballs were done away with 4 games into the season, there have been 50 handballs like that not given since, but today City get an offside goal, offside by what 25 ft? And a free penalty.

    Joke of a season.

Gotta be a contender for the top 10 worst decisions in the history of football.

He is quite clearly interfering with play as his position has to influence Mings' decision making. Blatantly offside

    Who is the VAR official?

It was so clear to everyone that he was miles offside. I think that's why Mings takes his time over it, because he know - or thinks he knows - that Rodri can't tackle him because he was so far off.

VAR are acting like the handicapper in Horse racing. Liverpool have 15 st on their back, while United , City, Leicester and Spurs are 7st. Season is being deliberately influenced to level the playing field.

    Yeah, very true.

All those clips that have adorned the Humour Thread of him losing it must be CGI.

So the premier league said that because mings deliberately played the ball rodri was no longer offside and didn’t gain an advantage.
As Rio said none of the players would have been aware of that and that all the rule changes are confusing.

They need to clear all this bolloxoligy up.

Can't wait for the post match press conference from Smith.

    Nothing wrong with it apparently.
Mings made a balls of controlling and passing it and had it stolen from him.

It’s such a flawed rule that Mings has to not go for that ball for Rodri to be flagged offside.

It’s insane as if he leaves it and then Silva speeds through and grabs it, it’s a clear goal too.

    Insane law.

City are not dropping many points for the rest of the season.
Cant see anyone being within 6 points with 10 games remaining atm with how they are playing

Mings only goes to control the ball, as the player coming back from offside and 'not interefering with play' moves in to challenge him. You can't be not interfering in the play and also closing in on the player near the ball

As long as Mings tries to play it the ball is live.
If Mings didn’t touch it at all then the player coming back is offside.
They explained the rule after the match ended.

Was a bit like Kane/Lovren a couple years ago.

From memory, Kane offside but Lovren went to play the ball but missed it. Kane then adjudged onside.

So an offside player can challenge a player near a ball, and wait for him to touch it to win it back?

pep shows his true colors when results don't go his way

Maybe his true colours are shown when he wins 😂
The way he behaves when they lose might not be his true colours.

Pep's totally invested in the game, nothing wrong with him losing the plot when his team loses. The best manager in the prem does it too.

Maybe so, i was watching the game tonight and thought how calm he and his team stayed so made a comment about it. Next thing people getting excited and posting up the same clip from 2019.

If anythng every manager lets it slip from time to time it just doesnt help when they do unless its controlled.

    here's the goal:

    https://twitter.com/noob_fcb/status/1351977926544207880

the player should have to get back onside before tackling/playing the ball. not sure if its the rules or var. but that shouldn't be allowed to happen

Mod: reminder that posters are welcome to question VAR and what they see as errors.

Please do not make accusations of corruption/fixing or similar in the process.

    Thank you

Doesn’t mean the rule makes sense though. The instantaneous nature of the new phase starting is insane. If mings touched it, then delayed on it, and then was pinched fair enough, but this was is definitely flawed.

    Yes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka could see nothing there.

United behind again. They have a real nack for doing that before coming back to win.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,144 ✭✭✭DVDM93

Fred looking for a penalty there.

Martin Atkinson makes the correct decision not to give it.

Pogba lunges out of frustration in the play that followed & gets booked.

    Greay start to the game.

I fully expect United to come from behind & win here so at least we'll see a minimum of 3 goals, great game for the neutral.

Mings was terrible for the goal but both Man City goals were questionable IMO.

There was only a game a few weeks ago where the same handball was not given and was given tonight. If the on field referee had not given that tonight, I don't think VAR would have called him back and given it as he couldn't ocerrule. The same as the last week the on field ref didn't give it, so the VAR didn't call him back even though he could. 2 same occurrences, 2 different outcomes.

The only consistency is the inconsistency of referee decisions.

  • Player of the season so far Bruno does it again

    Created that out of nothing
