Its thread like this that shows you who the whining snowflakes are.

There was absolutely nothing whatsoever for the master to apologise for and we need to just get this effin blame game fcked up mentality out of out heads.

The media seem to be searching for anything to whine about ever since golfgate and suckers like the whining snowflakes are too keen to jump on the bandwagon

The issue with other hospitals not getting their vaccinations rests with the HSE but I don't see why the Coombe should be behind any other hospital, they have emergency facilities and can't worry about testing for Covid when an ambulance turns up at the door so they are quite high risk

I disagree, we've a finite supply and they should be going to the hospitals dealing with covid in their first before hospitals that won't have covid cases in there. Sure, there's a chance the Coombe will get one, but that's the exact same as any hospital and it's not like the Mater Private (which has an A&E) has gotten their vaccines yet.

Look at the reaction of some people on here?

I have the same reaction as "some of the people on here". I'm not calling for his job, but I'm calling for us to do better to protect the healthcare workers who are working with COVID positive patients and remain unvaccinated. The people who have taken unquantifiable risks to ensure that these patients get safe and equitable care.

Couldn't they have given the 16 to any admin who need to be onsite. How hard would that have been?

For those complaining about the Nurse from Tip being used in the interviews, it's not about her magically being teleported to Dublin, it's about tying two stores together.
As the Coombe gets a considerable amount vaccinated despite having a low risk patient base, Nenagh didn't get vaccinated despite having Covid patients.

That's a fair question - but not the question which was being asked by SteddyEddy, who specifically brought her up to challenge the assertion effort was made to contact surrounding hospital staff, and quite pointedly neglected to mention she was on the other end of the landmass.

So you are arguing over two of the 120 spare vaccines?
One works in a medical practice the other works in the hospital.

"Two of the recipients are understood to be Dr O’Connell’s children, one of whom is college-going age, and is a paid part-time worker in his private medical practice. The other works intermittently in the hospital as an unpaid worker."

So 120 vaccines spare, they found 104 people at short notice.
16 had to be found at ever shorter notice and of the other 16 - 9 were over 70...
Would people rather they were just dumped?

Honestly mountain out of a molehill imo.

To you Gmisk, not the frontline workers who are complaining that they didn't get theirs.

The way people have reacted to this is shocking.

Seems people prefer the vaccine to be in the bin.

Faux rage from lots of bored and angry people.

I say fair play for being innovative and getting the vaccine into arms on a Saturday evening, after working expertly to extract more doses from the vials than expected.

No,why not go down the ‘list’ and ask people can they get to the hospital.... no different to asking friends / family who still have to ‘get there’.... accept it’s been done fairly.

If I get a call now, saying I’ve two hours to get to Beaumont, I’m getting a taxi, lift, whatever...

If you ring Maureen or Michael .. “ well, I was going to the supermarket with my sister Bernie, erm let me think erm, can I call you back ?...”. “ no problem Maureen / Michael , while you have a think if you want a potential life saving vaccine I’ll ring somebody else who knows what they want, back in the Q you go “ ....hang up...no fûcking around or debate.

It just so happened that various aul dears and offspring of executive level staff were onsite at the time, despite all the restrictions :D

I think it's rather telling that neither your originally quoted version of her story nor this summation of it mention that, once again, she's in Tipperary, a place quite famous for its distance from subject at hand.

Fortunately Jill there's places in between Tip and the Coombe.

The Mater Private has an A&E only in name, in fact its by appointment only at present! Handy if you're going to have a heart attack next Thursday :pac:

The patients coming into the Coombe by ambulance are just as likely to have Covid as any other patient on an ambulance to other hospitals and due to the specialised nature of their cases it would be a massive risk to leave their staff open to infection

Actually Jill as I stated earlier I know plenty of former colleagues in frontline hospitals in Dublin. They're just as mad about it and also the fact that people are defending what happened.

The maternity hospitals have all had Covid-positive cases in them, and unlike other hospitals they don't have the luxury of being able to bounce patients to a covid ward in another location. They just have to isolate and do their best.

If a woman in labour is positive, the staff who are currently available have to deal with it. They don't have specific covid-ward staff to deal with it.

Arguably this put maternity staff higher up the chain than regular frontline staff since they are at risk of being in contact with a case at any time.

The frontline workers in the Coombe that were available for it.....got it....

The fact the Coombe is getting it before other hospitals is a totally different question imo.

There are many questions about this. My main question is why was there no back up list (even in paper form) of people who could get it in the case of leftovers?

We have the worst rollout of the vaccine in the developed world and plenty to be angry about. This seems like a case of not wanting to waste the vaccine, again, down to our abysmal rollout out rather than "it's not what you know, it's who you know..." (which we'll no need see plenty of in the coming months).

As of the weekend we were second best per capita at the rollout in Europe.
Where do you get your facts from or do you just make up whatever you want?

Presumably they had some form of list if they got 104 people in quickly.

There are a few layers to this story

-the hospital being in line for vaccinations
-the number of extra shots and how they filled those slots
-the 16 and how they filled those slots

It's unheard of in any vaccination program not to have a list.

I would say there were hence the 104 frontline workers getting it.
I would say they scrambled to get those 16 used at short notice, which they did, better than the alternative.

The IT systems, and non IT systems are probably not up to snuff, as already discussed here.

Something like this happened in America and the doctors were congratulated.

Here the are ostracised by the "affected" fucwits / covid police.

Right but they seem to have some list to get the 10r which you seem to ignore?

The HSE would be responsible for that no? They contacted the HSE, as per the article.

Tbf, I think when the full situation comes to light it may have been the right thing to do in the moment however you cannot blame people for questioning the details given the trust levels when it comes to HSE Admin.

We will have a better rollout because of that.

I still don't see how they should be priority over places like Nenagh or Mallow who were both waiting on vaccines (not sure if they've gotten them yet or not still) who are general hospitals and far likelier to be dealing with a covid case.

Let's maybe see what comes out, but the above doesn't sound like a big deal at all to me.

I'm blaming the HSE as well! I'm not lumping it all on one man but this sort of nepotism is extremely common in the HSE. The HSE is one of the most wasteful organisations in Ireland.

I worked in a lab in a certain Dublin hospital where a guy was hired as a biochemist with the wrong degree all because his aunt worked in senior faculty.
