That's not midsummer before reopening... that's midsummer before it's even considered. So you know what that means: Autumn will be just around the corner. Can't take any chances. I don't mean to doom monger, but you should all see by now that 2021 is effectively a write-off. There is no intention to do anything but "defeat the virus", as MM said the other day.

Defeat a virus? You cannot "defeat" a virus. Insanity.

    July/August probably.

The issue is there's no-one else. The Opposition want more severe lockdowns and Zero Covid. Also have stated they would never 'Go against NPHET' - an advisory body upon which the Government should not answer to, but who should answer to them.

There are 25 political parties registered in the dáil so there is plenty of 'options' as you put it... Zero COVID means we get our civil liberties back and not going against NPHET means we would have had shorter more severe Lockdowns... I fail to see how that's a bad thing

The problem is that voters get caught up on the 3,532 deaths caused by the troubles and don't realise that the civil war parties have stood over 4,000+ deaths in just the last 11 months

Will need to wait until at least after the August Bank Holiday so probably September to be safe.

MM now saying no possibility of outdoor dining until mid-summer.

What a bizarre and evil state of affairs.

Shame on you if you support this wickedness.

They have elected to continue to impose the most cruel and most unscientific policy ever witnessed for another 3 to 4 months, driving an epidemic of social isolation across this country they know the media will sweep under the rug.

So too will the surge in cancers and heart disease as the missed diagnosis hits the death rates in years to come.

Shame on any Irish citizen who supports the severity of these lockdowns!!!

Maybe he's referring to indoor dining.
Where's the mention of outdoor dining?

    Im not disputing that.

We`ll still be locked down in 2920 the way tis lot are thinking :D:D:D

Im with both you and boggles by the way that not allowing hospitals to be overcome with admissions is a reason for these lockdowns but look at it from another point of view. Had the government ramped things up and prepared we would not be in a lock down this long.

The issue right from the start was that the 1st lockdown was to allow the government prepare and ramp up for further surges / out breaks so society could continue to operate.

They have not done this one bit. They have sat on their hands and literally done **** all to protect our vulnerable all for a virus that has a death rate in the overall population of 0.08% and a death rate in our most vulnerable of only 0.5%

The fault lies with this government who cannot protect its citizens.

That's the point Im trying to make - it wont kill healthy people and the government should have foreseen this and got the measures in place to protect those vulnerable people.

Ah t'will be grand - sur we'll all be dead by 2920 :pac:

Dodgy keypad - my bad ;)

Btw don't disagree with any of that.

House party went well last night, no gardai involved and everyone home safely.

Its indoor house parties how the virus spreads - If we had some real leadership this could be spelled out instead of banning outdoor dining and meeting outdoors, which actually help keep people sane , and are extrly low risk of transmission. I despair now.

One guy on twitter( who I suspect is a government shill) thinks we are only 3-4 weeks behind in terms of vaccination.

Its amazing how blind people become when defending their own country.

North Korea would blush at the stuff some Irish people come out with. All over Europe governments,MEPs, media etc are slating the EU commission on vaccine roll out yet in Ireland you hear nothing.

I agree 100%. Should allow socialising outdoors instead of banning all social contact.

Ah not this sheete again !!!

BIG difference in what was said by the journalist and the actual quote from MM as given in inverted commas in the article.

From the actual body of the article - this is what the Taoiseach said. And I quote
(journo bit)Asked about the reopening of hospitality, Mr Martin said he did not foresee that happening before the middle of the summer

(MM bit) "(t)hat the public health authorities are saying is that we stick with this until end of April, then we reflect on the situation and make decisions about the months ahead," he said.

Now I don't know about you but April is NOT the MIDDLE of the summer in any definition I came across. That journo needs a calendar ASAP.

Unfortunately I don't see things changing soon.

The majority of the population adhering to the restrictions will likely face those restrictions for longer because of the stupid behaviour of some.

I’d be all for zero if it meant we had no restrictions. You can’t get in or out of Australia but you have full freedom within the country in exchange

His party put the country on its knees 10 years ago , watch it unfold again - there a great song out there with the lyrics “You ain’t seen nothing yet”

These restrictions will propel Irish business and society into complete disarray over time

Ring the owners of the tackle shops and ask to arrange a delivery if you can.

    Have to get creative.

MM is like a narcissist with a scorned ego. He got a lot of stick for how things went at Christmas so driven by his ego, he won’t let up or relent or even consider anything other than abiding by all things NPHET. I’m not a huge fan of Leo but at least him and Simon have an element of humanity about them. They’re clear communicators and there’s always a thread of positivity to whatever they’re saying, even if it’s bad. They acknowledge how hard this is for people and Leo threw us the odd bone last year when we needed it, bad and all as things were. MM is like bishop Brennan gunning for Crilly after he gave him a kick up the arse. Tunnel vision and filled with rage and can’t be talked down

Ya, I'm far from FG/FF voter but MM is brutal. The odd waver from leo makes me think he's human whereas I still suspect MM has the "Cork Taoiseach" label in front view.

The Goverment/ NPHET should be ramming home this point everday about how virus is transmitted - House parties and the like - and instead of banning people from meeting outdoors , they should be activly encouraged to do so (in a socially distanced way ) - But all logic appears gone, many people are sick of nearly 12 months of never-ending lockdowns , and some will do stupid things like indoor house parties, which are how virus will really transmit.

You don't really need anyone to explain the difference between a casual chat to 'talk about sh1t' and keeping the food supply chain running?

you have left out half my post.
keeping the food supply chain running does not need the importing of cheap labour.
plenty young people here looking for work, pay them properly and they will do it.

i myself worked in a meat factory belonging to larry goodman for 3 years as a young buck, back in the mid nineties. .
take home pay 380 punt and that was good money and everyone there was irish and hard working men.
now that factory is staffed by people earning 400 - 450€ for same work.
25 years ago, allowing for currency switch and discounting inflation we earned better money then they do now.

the correct answer to a secure food chain is better wages for people who work in food industry and better prices for farmers
and if that means we as consumers pay € 3 for a bag of carrots or €1 for a head of cabbage so be it.

the morally wrong answer in a time of pandemic is importing labour from regions with high covid numbers and dangerous variants ( we are warned daily by the government nphet and the media about these variants ), where the only reason to import this labour is because it is cheap. not because of a labour shortage but because it is cheap

it is irresponsible to say we must stop people leaving ireland to visit places like brazil because of the dangers involved with bringing the virus back while actively defending migration the other way so we can continue to have cheap food on our tables.

Anther benefit in Australia is much less death, I think they had 909 cases, which is a lot but remember that's less than a quarter of our deaths and five times our population

Of course our Civil War parties haven't cared much about that
