Just watching some videos of an Irish vlogger in Minsk, Belarus. No lockdown there. Pubs and restaurants all operating as normal. Their hosptials haven't been overwhelmed.

As of today, 20/2/21: 276,990 total cases and 1,903 deaths. Population of Belarus is 9.4 million.

It's funny how Europe's last dictatorship is now offering it's citizens more freedom than the rest of Europe.

Europes last dictatorship is undoubtedly being completely honest of course.

“We don’t foresee that [reopening pubs] before the middle of the summer,” said Martin.

“What the public health authorities are saying is that we stick with this until end of April, then we reflect on the situation and make decisions about the months ahead.”

Summer is June / July / August

Neither the RTE reporter or Michael Martin suggested that summer was in April. They are planning to make decisions in April for the summer.

Even if everyone over 18 is vaccinated NPHET won't want restrictions lifted.

Oh well, if we're to start questioning numbers...

    That is what is frightening.

The PM suggested that the IMF offered his state money to lock his people down, which he rejected you can choose for yourself if you want to believe him!!!

He also claimed driving a tractor and drinking vodka prevents catching covid. So seems reliable.

We are and we aren't, if you excuse the phrase. If this was a virus people were mortally afraid of then we would isolate. At this stage I think everyone in the country knows some one who has had the virus and is now fine (personally I know 6 people including some very close relatives). So we weigh the risks and move on

We are not being allowed to weigh the risks and move on.

If some people want to wear masks stay 2m apart not travel work from home etc I say let them.

I don't want to and shouldn't be forced to.

The Financial Times talking down the vaccine - it "will not be the silver bullet [it] might have seemed in December".

    That was from yesterday's edition.

Because only a tiny number in EU is getting access to it anytime soon. So how can it be a silver bullet?

Did you try it? It doesn't work if you crash the tractor.

Look at the state of the daily deaths graph.

    That is staggering consistency.

I think the rest of us are well aware when summer is.

What MM actually said in the RTE article is given in inverted commas. The rest of it is the journos own
(journo bit) Asked about the reopening of hospitality, Mr Martin said he did not foresee that happening before the middle of the summer

(MM bit) "(t)hat the public health authorities are saying is that we stick with this until end of April ,then we reflect on the situation and make decisions about the months ahead," he said.

April is not the MIDDLE of summer.

Article is as clear as a bucket of mud.

They'll probably want incidence and hospital numbers down and restrictions on airports but the vast majority of us won't be restricted if they get their way

Can anyone here honestly see much sense in having level 5 for so long? The cases were low last summer and now vaccines. What is the logic behind this?

They could 100% decide in April - No pubs until midsummer.

Do you see where they are coming from on this?

They claim the British variant is more contagiou.

But their is no evidence of this at all.

And you think Ireland is a great example of how things should be done?

The Irish sneering and laughing at other countries is pretty fcuking ironic.

This place is a sh1tshow no matter how you dress it up.

Looks like restrictions will start to be rolled back before that all things going well.
Varadkar: Taoiseach did not say Level 5 would last until May

Individual hospitals have reported more deaths on a single day than have been reported "officially" on that single day for the whole country.

It's not bad to be honest........ someone gave Belarus as a great example as their pubs are open..... the data suggests that their covid problem is getting worse not better.

Some Irish sneering at the situation here is pretty daft IMO after what we saw in Dec/Jan when Paddy got some freedom. That was a sh1tshow

Apart from the fact is has become the dominant strain.

How do you think it did that?

No one is sneering or laughing at Belarus. It is a country suffering badly.

Now people swallowing whatever fairytale suits their agenda is a different matter.

And holding up their PM as a bastion of truth is equally hilarious.

I detect a growing dissatisfaction among the people I know with the relentless lockdowns. If we as individuals state our dissatisfaction to as many people in our own circles, though personal contacts, What App groups etc. as possible, the politicians will react quickly imo.

Their reporting of daily deaths maxes out at 10.

They have reported 9 deaths every day for the past week.

    What are the chances?

There's been multiple dominant strains in Ireland since this began. Were they all more contagious/deadly than the last.

Its funny we never heard about variants in the news until we had hope from the vaccine.

    Absolutely:

    The article is ****e

    The headline was misleading

April is not the "middle of summer"

No one knows when the hospitality sector will start to open - a decision could be made by the end of April and restrictions eased any month after that.

Oh and don't always believe the headlines - read the article first ;)
