As for Obama, I wouldnt believe a word out of that mans mouth, he will say one thing publicly but privately think the opposite.

His statement on Biden yesterday was completely disengenuous, Obama has been working behind the scenes to oust Biden.

"I've been critical of Biden, yes but he is by and large a decent man and doesn't deserve to be treated like this by a party he has given his life to."

Kinda like Pence, and Trump's goons trying to hang him on Jan 6th eh?

Fairly quiet about that though, curiously...

    Is he dead?👀

    Wtf is he?

What is this low level concern-trolling nonsense?

    He is recovering from Covid.

The only deflection is from you whenever you are asked a question that highlights the inconsistency and contradictions and double standards in your posts on US politics.

Zero unprompted criticisms of Trump and Republicans.

It is obvious you have no regard for Biden and this is a pretence to post criticisms of other Democrats.

Your lack of similar posts that would see you criticise Republicans demonstrates the pretence in your posts to be false.

Where are your posts from the forum from before the debate calling Biden a decent man?

Do people think it credible that senior Dems people should have stayed in sync with Biden,(because he's a nice guy) knowing it would fail and also affect the House and Senate races? This is politics and politics requires you to make tough decisions and may not make up popular always.

No its not credible... transparently so as a line of attack.

Thats rich, talking about double standards and inconsistencies.

Up until the debate a month ago, the party line and indeed that of most of his cheerleaders on here was that he was as sharp as a tack.

Everyone and their dog knew he was in decline. The debate simply put it front and centre. Trump is also in decline, but currently not at the same level as Biden.

It was the job of his aides and party to cover that as much as possible and get him over the line. It works exactly the same way for Trump and his gaffes and issues. Didn't look good for Biden, so he stepped aside.

Should he have done this earlier? Possibly, but the political playbook (on both sides) leans heavily against replacing the incumbent. So it's relatively understandable in those circumstances.

Anyone acting all "confused" about this is playing partisan games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,085 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

    Textbook deflection.

Proves my point. You couldnt find posts pre debate where you expressed respect for Biden or called him a decent man.

Entirely discrediting of your line of attack here.

So expressing the sentiments now rings hollow... transparently it is only done now to serve as basis for attack on other Democrats.

    Yeah thats rich alright.

Everyone and their dog knew he was in decline.

    Not on here they didnt.

Any time anyone said Biden was in cognitive decline, it was dismissed as trolling.

It was a stammer we were told, he has a lifelong stammer.

I could easily go back through all these excuses trotted out, if I had the time.

So the question is did these posters actually believe what they were saying or were they being disengenuous and deceitful.

Or maybe they were just playing partisan games as you put it.

It is the same nonsense about folks still moaning 8 years later about Independent Bernie not getting the red carpet treatment into the role of party that people have spent their lives building.

Politics is ruthless, when it isn't you're very likely to be on the losing side. During the 2020 primaries plenty tried to push Biden out early but he fought through it got momentum and then bent the other candidates into coalescing around him. What Biden saw over the last few weeks is the other side of it

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,785 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

The only person trying to do the deflecting is you.

    It wont work.

The last time I posted on this thread back in June I posted a Biden faux pas and said Biden wasnt playing with a full deck.

    Your riposte was

"The 'centrists' getting ever more desperate in their attempts to re-throw MAGA mud at Biden. Predictable "nothing burger".

    Nothing burger eh ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,984 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Cut the dramatics. Trump is already displaying signs, are you "concerned" over that? No.

    It's BS.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,971 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Ive been critical of Biden, yes but he is by and large a decent man and doesnt deserve to be treated like this by a party he has given his life to.

This is the first positive thing you've ever said about the man.

Couldn't be a more superficial character if you tried.

    It's Joever

    or is it?

Oscarmadison posted this link in mid June, about 9 days before the debate

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13481849/democrat-plot-biden-replacement-clinton-obama-pelosi-schumer.html

Now DailyMail.com has learned that if Joe stumbles in that first face-off with Trump or if his polling numbers keep falling, it'll take a united front of the liberal grandees to make
    Joe throw in the towel.

'The only people who could force him out would be Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer,' one Democratic strategist told DailyMail.com. 'It would have to be the four of them collectively

and said it may become a reality

Here are a few of the constructive replies to his assertion

It's not even speculation, it's purely hypothetical garbage - Podge_irl

Keep buying those lottery tickets, dreams do come true (at odds of millions to one) - Duploelabs

These rumors persist because the right doesn’t want to race against
Biden. They’d prefer anyone else but the clean nosed Catholic they can’t
even lay an email server on. And ain’t it just a treat that these
rumors swirl around every name on the left that the right has built its
entire base around despising and getting out their vote for? - Overheal

the repeated claims by the GOP and their flacks that "the Democrats are
planning to replace Biden any day now" are utter nonsense. -Quin_Dub

Clearly between the Daily Mail junk article, what I'm seeing from
Trumplodyte friends on FB, and now Fox news, the "Biden is too
unhealthy" thing is "in the air." Probably because Ukraine's making
progress in their war and so RuZZia needs to stir up the useful idiots -
not you, but whoever fed the glurge to the Daily Mail or Fox news.

Anyway, when you see it, just let it go. It's nonsense and just a CFTrump-favoring whataboutism. - Igotadose

Nobody's taking anything badly. You made a hysterical claim and pasted a
link to the Daily Mail, a well known spreader of fake news. People gave
it the curt dismissal it warranted. -ancapailldorcha

Before the last election we were told he was definitely going to be replaced at the convention , then after that we were told he was definitely going to (be forced to ) resign and allow Harris to become President and now we're back to "He's definitely going to be replaced at/before the convention".

It's simply not going to happen. -Quinn_Dub

Those lottery tickets sure paid off.

What does that mean, "politicians like power" … trite and irrelevant in the circumstances.

    Really?

Biden was supposed to be the guy to beat Trump in 2020 and hand the batton to someone else.

Instead he hung on for dear life, with his inner team (Including Harris), hiding him from the public at all costs. Then we had the infamous debate performance and even still Biden wanted to hang on….

So yea, Poltiicans like power. And the main reason he was pushed was that the Congressional party who wanted to keep their seats, knew that a Biden ticket would have been a disaster for them.

"And ain’t it just a treat that these
rumors swirl around every name on the left that the right has built its
entire base around despising and getting out their vote for?"

This lottery ticket did, in a weird way: whether intentional or not Biden served as a lightning rod, and now Trump is locked into a ticket that was coordinated to go all in with the "F* Joe Biden" rhetoric, and now they have no clear path to pivot upon, and are even raging demanding refunds for all the money the campaign has now squandered campaigning against none other than Joe Biden (in the strongest sense of the phrase 'none other', I've already seen MAGAs in my area retiring their "**** Joe Biden" signage as obsolete)

And true enough the rumors about where the Dems turn next have been eg. Michelle Obama, someone they'd love to campaign against what with all the prebaked nonsense about her being a man in drag, and other racist/sexist conspiracy tropes that have been generated about her over the years since 2008.

I don't pretend to know who the DNC will pick as the VP now but it's going to be a hoot watching MAGA and the 'centrists' come up with Qanonsensical reasons to hate the likes of people on the actual shortlist like veteran pilot Cpt. and Sen. Mark Kelly.

So in one post you deny that the Democratic party got up a bit of skullduggery in their containment of Sanders in 2016, and in this post you just claim, "The Democratic party can run their party as they see fit and make up the rules as they go along"

So much for an open and transparent process! ROFL

You cannot have it both ways mate.

They remind me of SF, where the boys in West Belfast are the real power brokers of the party.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,621 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

But but but…. there are no party elites or powerbrokers in the Democratic party… it is a 'grass roots' organisation

or so they try and tell us. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,785 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I am, believe it or not I dont think Trump is fit for office, Ive said that for a number of years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,621 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

    Spot on.

As I said in another post, Biden is a good man, just too old for the job and should never have been the nominee.

It is funny to see the hypocrisy of those who did support him in full flow now.

And it is very odd that we have not seen one word from Biden since his Tweet. Is he locked in his bedroom or something? Someone on VMTV said, if this was Russia and the Kremlin we would be thinking it was all weird and a coup was ongoing, but because its the Democrats, well they are all unicorns and lollipops aren't they, they would never stab a leader in the back for political gain…. no suree, and any talks of a coup is the realm of conspiracy theories.

This election campaign will be historic for the character assassination of Joe Biden by his own party and peers, if the 25th ammendment isn't now used to make Kamala Harris POTUS the Democrats are pissing all over the political system and using only what suits their own interests.

Biden can not now stay on in office if the party have asked him to withdraw on the grounds that he is unfit to run as their preferred candidate then he is unfit to continue in the position of POTUS. If Kamala is springboarded to.POTUS the asterisk next to her name as 47 will damage any legacy even if she wins in November.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,145 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Biden was just on a call with Harris at her speech at their campaign headquarters so you can put that worry to bed.

I wish Irish reporters and politicians would stop trying to give their opinions on the US politics. They are so incredibly uninformed that it is an embarrassment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,971 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

    What a load of bollocks.

There is nothing in the law that says a POTUS who drops out of re-election consideration has to forcibly be 25A'd, and there is no "pissing all over the political system" for that POTUS to carry out the remainder of the term to which they were elected. 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,145 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

    Nonsense.

Saying someone cant win an election and serve as president for another ~5 years is no where near the same as they are unfit to be president right now.

A team deciding they aren't signing a player to a new 4 year deal halfway through the season doesnt mean he isnt capable of playing for the rest of the current season.
