Joint Assessment Question

I feel stupid for asking this, I was helping my dad with his 2021 tax piece on PAYE online (he needs to upload a PRSA payment).

Long story short, to do so you have to estimate himself and the mam's income for the year.

Despite the fact one earns more... Revenue's website seems to allocate more of the tax credits/ band (at 20%) to the lower earner..which is completely counterintuitive to me.

Has anyone any good online examples of this?
