M5 VRT Issues

    I've recently imported a 2007 M5 saloon...
This vehicle was listed on the Revenue VRT site until end of 2018. In May 2018, I checked the VRT on a 2007 M5 Saloon. It returned a figure of 5243euro..

Move on to September 2020 when I bought and imported a 2007 one, the car is no longer listed on VRT site, and Revenue eventually came back with a VRT figure of 9000euro.

The E61 M5 estate is listed with a VRT price of 2576euro.

Has anyone any advice for me?

I've appealed the decision stating and I provided a screenshot that I took in 2018 showing the VRT at that time was 5243euro.. Problem is though, I didn't have the statistical code included.

If anyone here happened to have imported a E60 M5 saloon over the past few years, I'd be very thankful if you could get in touch as if you have any documentation showing what VRT you were charged, it might save me 1000s.

Even if someone had a photo saved showing the statistical code of the E60 M5 saloon....

    Thank you in advance,

Admittedly there's not many e60 m5 for sale in Ireland at the moment, only 4 on donedeal between 05 and 08 but they're all asking around 30 grand.
Vrt rate was 36% last year so looks to me in around 9000 is about right.
I can't get a price for e60 saloon or e61 estate on the vrt site but don't know where you got the 2k figure for an e61

A valuation from 2 years ago is worthless, with or without a statictical code - its only valid for 30 days or so, so your appeal won't go too far I suspect. For an appeal you need to prove the OMSP they used is wrong - you'd need to print off some adverts of similarly specced cars which backup your case. As said above, 9k is about bang on though based on current asking prices.

Once it's off the system, you don't have a leg to stand on. As said, 9k isn't far wrong, not sure you can do much, unless you find some examples here up for considerably less(I don't think that's happening).

Well, in common with some other specialist cars, their value has gone up, not down, and Brexit itself feeds some of that, so an increase in VRT is not unexpected.

I think your appeal may fall somewhere in between .

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I don’t think 11 year old ones were ever going for €7k ?

It's extortionate, but going by their rules & calculations, it's likely very close to the mark.

The VRT at a previous date is completely irrelevant. Get your valuations for your appeal and you may get a bit back, but considering an 07 M5 is worth between 20 & 30k depending on spec & milage, the minimum you should have expected was €7400.
