953 swabs and 5.77% positivity is wonderful, even if it is Tuesday. Breaking the 1000 mark and trending downwards in positivity at the same time is a nice psychological boost.

Do we call that good news? On a Tuesday?

Thats'a great drop, the continued downward trend in numbers is the only positive right now.

At least we know what we're doing to get them down is working, the concern now is how we can keep them down there without living like monks for the rest of our days. :pac:

With that positivity rate...I would say so!

    Wonderful swab numbers :)

7-day positivity now down to 8.82%

Great to see under 1,000, but even better to see positivity rates approach 5% IMHO.

Any bumps tomorrow can only be very limited unless something is way off.

    Nah, not enough tests!

Whats the odds Dr Tony will say they had an IT issue? If these are solid consistent numbers then we really making progress, 16,520 tests is down so fewer folks presenting

  • Registered Users Posts: 273 ✭✭Galwayhurl

Surely it's time to start testing close contacts?

He's a medical person who's been offering opinions on this. Some people like what he has to say, some don't and some just don't care.

Thanks, was not aware of him - sure if he is a gastro doc - might be he is not much of an expert in the covid field.

Or maybe he is the foremost expert - think i'll join the don't care crowd.

They probably want to be sure it's not a blip and the trace & test team don't get overwhelmed again.
Someone else also mentioned that they were undertaking some mass testing exercise.

But they must surely start up close contact testing again immediately.

" Fifteen junior doctors receive over €100,000 in overtime pay amid Covid-19 pressures

IMO concerned as medics would have to be doing 70-hours a week every week to earn such sums"

Excess hours every week is much the same as being drunk on duty ( you'll find loads on it by military etc )

Wonder how many patients die needlessly due to errors caused by it ?

    We basically are.

    16,000 tested and 1,000 positive.

Most close contacts are ringing up saying they have symptoms just to get tested.

Have a look at the cache of his Twitter page and decide for yourself if it's to do with Covid.

Dont do twitter - full of made up rubbish.

Was just wondering if he was a relevant expert being put down. Being a doctor doesn't really mean a lot in a viral pandemic unless your educated in relevant field/topics (this man may be)

Donnelly definitely is not my cup of tea

We are very good at getting cases down. It actually highlights that we could achieve a zero covid scenario in a matter of months if we controlled travel to the island, terrible shame the political difficulties can't be worked out.

I thought this was just the norm for Junior doctors??? Its been one of those historical jokes. (Bad jokes).

The answer by simple odds are that someone has suffered due to the tiredness of those treating them - then again if its tired treatment or none - tired will do.

We probably won't find out, but it would interested to hear who said it and how. Could very much be either a threat or else someone trying to be sound. Just because they know Donnelly hardly means it was Donnelly instigated either.

Anthony's been great and I agree with him on practically everything, but he has (understandably) had a few meltdowns on Twitter lately that he's subsequently apologised for. Was fairly castigating individual Twitter users last night who sent their kids to private schools for example. He's in a very stressful role and they're getting hammered at the moment, it's no surprise he's stressed out.

Anybody who thinks 'ZeroCovid' is a rational approach needs their head examined, but I would share your concern about influence from ministerial lackeys like this, it's censorship and suppression of free speech and that is a dark path.

Are you for real? It was 9% last week.

So is it negative news then???

At our current rate of decline, we’ll be at 10 cases per day by mid April.

It’s hard to envisage a scenario where we don’t have hospitality open around then based on these caveats:

    1. Mandatory quarantine for international travellers with strict rules on entry to the UK also
    2. Negative covid tests required for those in the freight industry
    3. A comprehensive contact tracing system akin to SE Asia’s ones. If we’re contact tracing 10 people per day this should not be an issue
    4. Rapid response to any potential outbreaks with 5 day severe lockdowns in places where it may be getting out of control

We could get fairly close to zero covid then and keep things under control while we roll out the vaccine. Summer is a massive asset too

Zero COVID is not practical as you can't put a time limit on it. A matter of months could be 2 or 6 months. You can't sell that to the public.

I'd love to be able to mute the term entirely. Have it muted on twitter but can't do it here haha it's such a frustrating, pointless pursuit.
