If the government's plan is called 'Living with Covid' then why isn't the government letting us do that instead of having this lockdown? The number of healthcare professionals employed by the HSE must have increased enough to make more ICU beds available.

I think their idea of 'Living with Covid' and our idea of 'Living with Covid' are completely different. Tony Holohan claimed that 100,000 people would die during the Swine Flu pandemic, As long as NPHET are in charge of this country we will be in and out of lockdown for years to come, they're completely alarmist.

They had over 500 ICU beds available for the first wave.
Mainly down to taking over all capacity in private hospitals and cancelling pretty much all elective surgery. More importantly, they didn't have as many staff out sick with Covid or isolating.

The problem with exponential growth in cases is, it translates into exponential growth in ICU requirements. Yes you could double you ICU capacity and be able to lockdown a week or 2 later, but then you:
A: Still have to lockdown
B: You're coming down from a much larger number, so it could mean a longer lockdown
C: Putting extra strain on an already stretched health service (mainly staff working flat out)
You're going to cause more deaths. More ICU capacity doesn't reduce the fatality rate (excluding some countries whose ICU was overrun)

I have really started to notice a lot more activity over the past week or so. In shops, visitors to homes, kids playing together etc. I think many people have had enough. The dry weather probably was a factor too. I agree the 5km thing is utter nonsense and brings unnecessary agitation to some people. A lot of people I know have a ready made excuse to get beyond the 5km.

Given that the government still doesn't think it's safe enough to even move to Level 4, the closure of schools has made negligible difference (if any at all!) and thus proves that the movement of staff and pupils to and from schools has no meaningful effect on the spread of the virus.

A daily "death toll" for today, of which fully a quarter occurred last year rather provides grist for that mill, I'd suggest.

Nobody mentioned a conspiracy.

The deaths are not notified to NPHET, they only report them. So this conspiracy theory of them suppressing death notifications for some wild reason needs to stop. It really does belong in a conspiracy theory thread.

It was absolutely freezing and windy yday, but I brought smallies to the local park for a walk and a bit of air. Park was I would say at 5% of what it usually would be on a day lately if weather any way decent. Yet there was a Garda van driving around the park. It makes absolutely no sense, why can’t they police house parties or the aholes who won’t wear masks in shops (now they are pushing the narrative that it’s now supermarket infections spreading). But to waste resources driving round an empty park is just bonkers.

If there was a serial killer loose in St Annes Park, I wouldnt expect to see as much Garda presence.
Driving the van up and down the main avenue on freezing week day afternoons. What they think might happen is beyond me.
I dont ever want to hear they are under resourced for kan power again.

It boggles the mind that people think this. If it was a big conspiracy, the first thing they'd do is not tell us when the deaths occurred, just that they've had x number of deaths reported to them.

You know rightly how deaths are registered and recorded in this country and that families have three months to do so. Your constant referring to 'last year' when we are only in February is disingenuous and a deliberate attempt to make it seem a much longer time frame than it actually is. Amanda Holden was reported to the police because she drove to Cornwall after receiving a distressing call from her elderly father . Seriousely why do people not understand that we are still human beings . She drove to her elderly dad to comfort him and suddenly people point the finger and she had to justify that .

We’re a year into this situation and it’s more cautious we’re getting. It’s crazy stuff.

We’ve turned the people of this country into judgemental fools. Everyone and everything they do is judged by covid this and covid that.

If people want to live their life let them live it. If others want to hide in fear then let them too. But give up this sh1t of judging people for their personal choices.

5 k /10 k travel limit is a load of rubbish when people can travel all over the country for work.

Soon someone needs to step back and have a real look at the situation. Make some proper decisions of how to move forward and not make decisions based on who’s going to be blamed if we do this and something happens.

As we’re progressing the restrictions are getting more severe. Ridiculous really ..

So in early January when they were not testing close contacts at all were they counting them as positive ?

Why the media the government and Tony Holohan have the people of this country worked into a state of frenzy especially the elderly.

People are afraid to open their front doors. People jumping off footpaths when someone approaches. It sad to see what’s been done to people.

Covid is portrayed as a near death sentence with the way it’s constantly shoved in people’s face.

Your a bad person somehow if u visit your grandkids etc.etc.

Travel limits are a waste of time stupid and ridiculous. You could travel to Dublin for work 5 days a week and maybe mix with people from many different counties in work environment but if you travel at the weekend it’s a problem. Give me a break....

Last time i was in St Annes was probably november, (outside my 5k now) meeting up with family for a walk, gardai were also driving around in their car saying something from loudspeaker. No one could hear what they were saying. Everyone just ignored them. Park was fairly busy that day, but its big enough to socially distance

As a general rule, no harm to assume everyone is positive unless you know otherwise, but that's hardly the same thing as counting them in the stats.
