Would anyone know a fish shop preferably in the northside of Dublin(city centre would possibly do too) that sell herring?. Seems hard to get, Kish Fish dont have it so im assuming that crosses out most regular fish mongers.

    Mod note:
I've moved this to the Dublin City forum because you're much more likely to get replies here. Posters in the Food forum are scattered far and wide.

Have you tried Wrights in Marino? Their motto is "If it swims we have it" :)

Did you try them all in Howth?
    Dorans and Nicky's Plaice.
    Wright's too.

I think we overfished all the Atlantic Herring and sold it all to Japan.

Where did you find that sells it?

My local Polski shop often has jars of roll mops in stock.

If you're buying them fresh how would you cook them?

Select Seafoods, Shanliss road. Didnt give the name in case I was suspected of being a shill(always have the shill guard up!). I'd just simply fry it in a pan.
He was out of them when I rang but said hed have some next week.

Nice one, not too far from me so might just try them. Other than in roll mop form (which I didn't like) I don't think I've ever tried one.

You can grill it too but I prefer frying it. You can coat it with oatmeal which will absorb some of the oils. Was only told of the oatmeal part by someone else. Havent had it very often and in a long time myself.

    Kipper is smoked herring.
You can buy marinated herring from IKEA (sill).
But I have not come across fresh herring.
    Mmm I like fish! :pac:
