Temp job ending - tax back

Hi, ok so maybe this is straightforward or maybe it’s not I’m not sure.

My husband finished a temp contract this week. We are jointly assessed and split our credits and cut off. I have more as I’m the higher earner.

When he did work for the few weeks he paid more tax than me so I’m wondering will we get that back (in my pay) or at some point this year or is it just held by revenue until we complete a tax return next year?

Also since he won’t be working now for the foreseeable due to childcare restrictions etc is it worth claiming the home carer tax credit?
