Looking to get some advice from anyone that has experience importing goods from Turkey. We are a small new business importing textiles. We order the product and the supplier ships it to us. At the moment we are only testing the waters and buying in small amounts from different suppliers.

    1) Shipping costs: The suppliers are telling us it's cheaper to send product to USA than to Ireland with courier and aren't too keen to do business as the shipping is costing them too much. Does anyone know why this could be? Is there an alternative, would it be cheaper if we ordered the courier on our end or set up an account with a courier company?

2)Import Tax: Everytime we order new product we get a bill a few days later to pay import tax. We don't mind paying the tax just wondering is there another way of doing this so we don't get bills with surprise amounts etc..

    Thanks in advance

I’d talk to Sandford Freight, based in Dublin. We have dealt with them in the past and found them very competent. They have a truck leaving Istanbul each week heading to Dublin, they sort all paperwork/fees etc, very straightforward process.
