Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If this is a red card it's s disgrace

Agreed, but is anyone really surprised when he took out the red?

Thats a shocking decision, he lifted his arm to get out of a grip.. nothing in that

WTF is going on with refereeing and VAR !! Who knows what the rules are anymore

    Shocking decision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,508 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

Surprised Dean didn't give a red card for that off-side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,303 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

That's probably the worst refereeing decision I've ever seen in the PL.

He even looked at it over and over, how can a ref stand over that and say yes that is a red?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,369 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Soucek didn't look at him in the lead up to that. Outrageous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,295 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Have I heard that right on Sky,

He was asked to come to the screen and look at the clenched fist?

    Wow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭irelandrover

I just hope that's overturned. He does not deserve to miss three games because Mike Dean is an awful ref.

But I don't see how they overturn it. It would be admitting that the ref made an awful decision after watching it thirty times.

It's Mike Dean. This was his chance to be the centre of attention. He was always going to give a red card.

They overturned the Southampton one which was made by the same ref doing the same thing..

    There is hope there

Anyone explain what happened. Cabt watch any of the games today. Soucek got a red card for which exactly. Sounds bloody horrendous stupid decision by the comments here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,283 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Also Mike Dean is a knob. How he is a ref is madness.

It'd be the second time in a week for him. Can easily overturn it, but that'll be the extent of it

It's not even like Dean f*cked it up in real time, to go over to the screen and watch that over and over to end up messing up like that. Such an horrendous decision.

I had a good view of it originally, but I've watched it back there about twenty times on a monitor.

Basically Soucek was being closely marked by Mitrovic awaiting the delivery of a free kick. I can't quite make out if Mitrovic said something to provoke him, but what is clear is that in a moment of sheer madness Soucek raised his elbow and violently smashed it into Mitrovic's face.

Before VAR, the excuse for shocking decisions was always that "well referees don't have the benefit of replays". I think now we can safely say that some are just utterly incompetent.

    Mike Dean cant either.

All jokes aside. Mike Dean wanted to give a red card so

    Wow. First time seeing it.
Wasn't even the classic going up for a header with arms raised, he was just moving his arm.

Worst thing is the VAR ref telling Mike Dean to issue the red card in the first place. Why can't these referee just make their decision, have a second look if needs be, and then change their own mind rather than being told to change their mind, which is the annoying part.

3rd joke of a red card issued in a few days. I'd expect that this is the 2nd one rescinded.

Thats actually madness, Mike Dean is a joke to the league. He must love the arseholeness of his referring style.

I don't think VAR told him to issue a red. He probably just said contact was made, have a look and decide yourself. If VAR said red he'd just issue the red without looking.

Managers lose their jobs to bad refereeing decisions (not saying this will cause that), what happens to a ref? Week off, down the league for a fortnight?

They really hide behind the lack of transparency.

Nah, the VAR only tell them to go over when they think they’ve got it wrong. That’s the process as it’s supposed to be.

Mason was the first to decide that this should be a red, not Dean.

There really does seem to be 0 accountability for referees in the league. And when you see the guest referees on BT Sports etc. who utterly refuse to say the ref has gotten a decision wrong, its no surprise.

Does Fernandes ever smile, he’s a face like a slapped arse most of the time.

He smiles most of the time, now he doesn't often smile when he's moaning at a ref but who does?

Did you see him smile there?

Everton happy to give time and space for united to cross balls, not a very good tactic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,079 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

This is how VAR should be used. Transparent. And not trying to create problems with feint touches.

It was an off the ball incident though so the on field Ref didn't see it! They asked him to look at it and he still made a ball's of it!

Look at the clip I posted above. In the second or third replay where they zoom out a little you can see the ref looking directly at the incident in the bottom left of the screen.

I didn’t see anything prior to the first goal but since then this is the first time I’ve watched Utd look commanding in a game against a half decent team. They are very impressive tonight. There could have been 40 passes in the build up to the Fernandes goal!

Can the crowd in the stadium hear that as well? Or is it just for the tv viewers?
