Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For me it is money and finacial services.

Just imagine how better the world would be if it did not exist.
No one poor no one rich.
    Equal health for all.
    Equal food for all.

Houses and cars would be given as to what is required of the individual or individuals.
So if your single a 1 bed and a small car or a transport ticket if you are a couple with family an MPV and a 4 bed house if your just a married couple the same and fir unmarried couples or does dating a 3 bed and a medium sized saloon car. There would be plenty of incentives to move up the scale but no banks or shops to be robbed so no properties and less crime on the streets.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Property is theft. And therefore inherently violent.

You seem to be talking about a utopian communism.

If money and financial service didn't exist then it would be replaced by other systems such as bartering.

You talk about giving people health and houses etc but who would bulild these houses or train the doctors?

I woud deem guns, bombs and concentration camp gas chambers more violent creations than money or financial services.

Would we ever have advanced technology wise without trading/money. What would drive progression?

Scarcity. There is enough to go around.

Scarcity surely is an imagined thing, yet necessarily for the money system, apparently, but abused by the people at the top.

What you're describing is akin to Communism.

Its been tried a few times and was never successful nor non-violent.

If you pay a guy working in Arnotts , the same as you pay a doctor... the doctor or potential doctor is going to say... “ why am I going to break my hole, studying night and day for X years, accepting the responsibility of people’s lives and wellbeing when I can not bother with any of that work, study and hardship, earn the same... selling suits in Arnotts... home at 7 every night, no overtime needed, little to no stress... happy days...

People need to be proportionately to the type of job they do, level of responsibility, danger, qualifications needed, experience, ability...

There would be no cars, no roads and all the rest. No great medicine or education or the like. In the days of battering people lived equally is it? The kings and the paupers. No. There was inequality. There was crime, and yes, all the bad ones, long before there was money, and if money disappeared crime would survive until it was just it and the cockroaches walking the earth.

Stay off the drugs OP. Money is one of the bedrocks under which we moved from being cave-dwellers (little more advanced than our animal ancestors) to form civilisations. Without it, we would still be living like that. So you can forget your "equal health" and "equal food". The reality would be life expectancy of 30 and constant hunger and deprivation where practically every day is a struggle just to survive. Oh, and "survival of the fittest" would reign supreme, so you can take your commie notions of everyone "being equal" and feck right off :)

As for what is the worst thing we created? Twitter (and equivalent social media). It promotes the worst in humanity and accelerates idiocy.

Both will bend, twist and warp perception until you no longer recognise yourself.

How did that quote go - there has never been a famine in a functioning democracy.

Artificial scarcity is the root of many evils.

    How is it necessary ??

    Supply and demand.

Make something attractive and people will choose to part with their money.

Or make it essential for survival and they have no choice.

OK for niche applications where cost isn't an issue.

Otherwise it's too uneconomic to do it properly.

Who the actual fcuk carries around a bottle of Baileys in their car?

Yes but what we're doing now isn't working either. Our standards of living are high but we're consuming and polluting at rates that can only really lead to war and famine and total ecological destruction sooner or later.
