Mrs Bilbot will take maternity leave on full pay and DB pension contributions covered etc. Figures for example are:

She pays 250 a month, company pays some 600 a month

Then she proposes to take 16 weeks unpaid maternity leave afterwards but the company has said she has to cover the company's contribution to the pension whereas if she was out for 6 months she would not be obligated.

1/ Does she really have no right to opt out altogether for 16 weeks
2/ If she does pay can this be written off tax or must it come from her net salary?

I presume the company, when paying this cost, gets some sort of tax write down that Mrs Bilbot doesn't.

1/. Refer to the employer. It'll depend on terms of her employment and the scheme rules.

2/. Yes subject to Revenue limits.
