Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    HI,

Im looking at leasing some land, and getting a herd number.

I dont own any other land.

I know i need shed / crush etc, but whats minimum quantity of land needed to get herd number, and is it okay to lease , or do you need to own the land?

Finally, if later i lease or purchase a different piece of land , does the herd number come with me?

yes herd no stays with you, dont think you need to own land just a desire to lose money ! ( only joking ) You prob can apply for single farm payment from reserve but you need to know no. of acres you'll be farming first

Can someone apply from the reserve their first year? Or do you have to have been on the system already?

Need a shed and a crush
Don’t need to own land but preferably a long term lease is wanted

Don’t think there’s a minimum area to get it, herd no. Stays with you forever

I assumed you could but now you say it would you have it approved by may 15 ( closing for SFP ) . Expensive first year without some help in that case. Hard enough to lease land with bigger farmers taking most around here long term

The reason I asked is that I know someone who might qualify for it this year, but wouldn't in other years (earning too much but didn't work a full year in one of the reference years). If they leased some naked acres then I think they could establish entitlements on it. But I think that this would be the last year they could do it. Because even if their work/salary changed now, by the time that came around as a reference year, they'd be too old. They never applied for anything before.

They apply for the bps with no entitlements and national reserve before may or whatever the closing date is. If successful they'll get paid on the NR entitlements in December.
