    Halting sites/traveller accommodation exists in;
Booterstown, Blackrock, Foxrock, Sandyford, Cabinteely, Dun Laoghaire, Glenamuck, Shankill, Rathmichael.

Even so, according to the article ."...“The demand/need for Traveller-specific accommodation is outstripping what is available,” the council said in a report to councillors on Monday."

West Dublin and North Dublin have their share South East Dublin needs a good taste of the culture the residents champion so much

Do a bit of research before you post - there are already numerous traveler accommodation sites in South East Dublin

Hazel Chu makes the point very well here. The policy up until now has been a complete failure and has made the situation for a vulnerable group even worse than it already was.

One thing I'll say about Ol' Hazel you can always depend on her to throw around accusations of racism.

How is it racism? Travellers arent a race.

Pandering to them to please the PC brigade. Go to a halting site and ask the residents there what they really think of us settled folk...their culture is take take take.

Why would we need special housing for travellers rather than give them social housing like everyone else?

Do we have special housing set aside for all the races?

Turning parts of a park into a residential development doesn't strike me as a terribly bright alternative policy at all and the council would be failing a whole lot of the public. The current dumping issues alone are a huge warning sign. DCC must have enough of a land bank anyway to address this. TBH this looks like wild kite flying, years of court cases and DCC ultimately backing down.

Close to where I live one partcular family of travellers managed to get the Matriarch a council house. The family plus extended relatives live in the Business Park, car parks etc until moved on. Anyway the Mother got the house, integration is fabulous right?. Then the caravan appeared on the drive way and the vans and now its the epicenter of all their activities mainly anti social, the local shop is terrorised by knee high kids sporting Mad Max style haircuts, dogs appeared now to wander and deficate anywhere at will. I could go on and on..

The council tell us the Traveller liaison officer will remind them of their tenancy obligations *roll eyes*

OK Hazel, if you think that's a good idea then set up a pilot project in Dartmouth Square*. I can see the locals all turning out to cheer you when you cut the ribbon.

*We all know this will never happen because once her year is up at the end of June she'll go back to living in Ranelagh.

When most of us say "social justice" we mean equality under the law opposition to prejudice, discrimination and equal opportunities for all. When Social Justice Activists say "social justice" they mean an emphasis on group identity over the rights of the individual, a rejection of social liberalism, and the assumption that unequal outcomes are always evidence of structural inequalities.

They're PUBLIC parks, nobody should be living in them, traveller or not. Put them on other land so the effort of creating decent public spaces isn't wasted and people in urban areas can enjoy the little green space left for them.

I don't think you should be putting up references to anyone's home address!!!
How about you give us your address?

Re-allocating parks as halting sites seems at face value a dubious, poorly taught out policy......id be interested to see logic and taught behind it

But it has shone a light on an issue, that needs sorting...things cant continue as they are either

they will ruin anywhere they are given, let them travel out of dublin and be housed there, not at ridiculous cost here...

Is converting public green space amenities into monoethnic residential spaces Green Party policy now?

I think someone in DCC is using reverse pyschology!

Put the rumour out that public parks may be used to house travellers as a possibility, and maybe the locals won't make objections next time plans to building apartments there are proposed, instead!

That's Chu's entire repertoire. It's all she has. She's a race baiting divisive figure, something we really don't need, but she won't be challenged on her self serving politicking by anyone in the Irish media. .

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

No, that's how they're being enabled to live and on the taxpayer's purse with it. Plenty of Travellers settled down a few generations ago, availed of social housing and free schooling and got on with life and their kids and grandkids are like anyone else in modern Ireland. The rest didn't for all sorts of reasons, a few of which aren't exactly savoury.

    Side note:

Is it time to recognize racism in the constitution(or where the hell it needs to be) so that politicians can stop shutting down debate on things by saying the word?

Ie if you want to say something is racist you need a Garda report saying that it is in fact racist or something along those lines otherwise you are slandering.

    Not really

You can provide as much free accomodation as you want

Some will settle down but they are mainly traveler at heart
