Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Crack in window frame

    Hi

Recently moved into house - one of the windows has a crack on the frame right beside the handle. Looks like the hinge on the window was not great and as a result window had to be slammed shut, combined with a dodgy handle it has put to much strain and now a crack.

Have opened the window in question a few times and feels as if the crack will get worse over time if something not done. I have changed the handle and have a crowd coming out to fix the hinge next week..

Any thoughts on how to patch up the frame? It's a small crack and while I will need to change the windows a few years down the line would rather not do it now - gorilla glue or any other sort of adhesives that might be useful?

Sugru can be quite good for things like that.

Is the crack under the the silver tape? You'll want to remove that and clean the area thoroughly. It's always going to be a weak spot though. The advantage of sugru is that there's a bit of flex in it, and you can apply it very neatly if you take your time.

I'd go with a belt and braces method until you can replace the window. Sugru underneath, then top it off with something like bonding tape.

Yeah it's under the silver tape (that's what they had on it - not of my doing). Thanks for the advice - easy to pick up sugru and the sealing tape in local hardware shop or need more of a woodies/builders suppliers?

I've seen Sugru in Woodies, and also Homestore and More. I usually order it online and keep some in the fridge. https://sugru.com/stockists

Not 100% sure about the tape - but if you trust your local hardware store, tell them what you're trying to do and they'll recommend something. That's assuming your local h/w store is one of those "font of all knowledge" places, rather than somewhere staffed by random passers by who have never picked up a screwdriver in their life :)
