I have an iPhone and love the Music Memos app, and have recorded hundreds of guitar riffs on it. I giving serious consideration to buying an Apple laptop and editing these riffs into songs in GarageBand. My question is, can I buy an old refurbished Apple Laptop that will run Garageband, or does Garageband need a newer iOS release to run?

    Cheers

So a 2009 Mac with 10.11 will work.

Ok thanks. So why does GarageBand say it requires macOS 11.0 or later?

    ** shrug **

I mean it’s probably using an api from the newer Oses that isn’t available pre 10.11. That’s pretty far back really.

The worry would be, for you, that the next GarageBand might need 10.12 or later. But if you are happy with the existing version go for it.

If you buy a refurbished laptop from Apple, it will come with Garageband on it already; the version suitable for whatever version of the OS is on the laptop (which will be the latest version the hardware supports). So no matter what, you'll get a version of Garageband, just possibly not the latest version, and as mentioned you may not be able to upgrade to the next version (but I'll still work as-is).

If you buy a refurb from a 3rd party, I'm not sure what software comes with it, you'd have to ask the seller.
